So in this week's episode, we are continuing the Restore Rewind series where we're gonna be throwing it back to a very important transition point in this podcast, which is when I changed the name again from originally Dream with me to. Scale without social to officially Called to Lead
And I cannot believe it's been almost three years since I recorded this episode and shifted it into what has been such an amazing blessing to be able to take that inspiration that you'll hear about, that the Lord gave me and put it into implementation to lead up to the biggest calling yet, which is starting this company with Restore Collective.
So I think you'll enjoy hearing my heart and story of how my identity was. Has never wrapped up in what I did. Still is not, it's wrapped up in who the Lord has made me to be and who he's called me to serve. And that is you if you're listening. Hi friends and welcome back to the called To Lead podcast. If you have been a longtime listener of the podcast, you know there's something a little bit different happening today. I have prayerfully decided to change the name of this podcast from the Scale Without Social podcast to called to lead. And today I'm gonna be sharing you the reasons why along with my mission, vision, and values for what I wanna share and who I wanna serve with this podcast moving forward.
And if you have been loving the concept of growing your business without being a slave to social media, get excited. That will still be a huge focus and a pillar of this podcast. It'll just be a facet alongside some [00:03:00] really other helpful aspects of your business that will allow me to better serve. And so I am super excited about today's episode.
A little bit teensy but nervous, but I can't wait for you guys to dive in and let me know what you think. Okay, friends, so I am seriously so excited and maybe just a little bit nervous to share with you guys today's episode. So. I have been podcasting for about a year and a half now, which is seriously crazy, and that in and of itself was kind of a calling that I feel like the Lord put on my heart probably even a year prior to that.
And I had to totally lean into choosing faith over fear every step of the way, including literally today as I share. Kind of a big pivot with you guys, and if you've been following my journey in podcasting, you probably know that this is something that's not my first time pivoting, but today I feel like this is the pivot to end all pivots because it's integrating, which integrate is my word of the year.
I know it's such a weird, like nerdy word, [00:05:00] but I've been doing the word of the Year for probably like almost 10 years now, and it, it just helps me to really guide my soul on what it is that I'm meant to do. And who I'm meant to serve and how I'm meant to do that. And so I'm so excited to officially let you guys know that the podcast is now going to be called, Called to Lead, and I'm gonna share with you today the mission, vision, and values, and a little bit of the story behind why I am choosing to make this pivot and to get a little bit more focused clarity on how I can serve you guys best.
So essentially again, a year and a half ago, I started my podcasting journey by sharing stories of light of network marketers who were building their business on a mission and foundation of faith. And then somewhere in there, I actually took my first break from social media and really felt. Like this kind of stirring in my spirit that there's a different [00:06:00] way to do the business model of network marketing that doesn't have to look like the way the world teaches us to do it.
And so that's when the idea behind scale without social was born. And there's been a couple little shifts and flows and ebbs along the way, but essentially. Short story. That's been the last, gosh, seven months. I have taken my business completely off of social media. I have been focusing on helping you guys each week to grow your business without having to sell your soul to social media or become an online influencer.
And the good news is that's not going anywhere. That is definitely gonna be a pillar and a focus of this podcast. But a month or so ago, I was literally driving down the road and I just had this. Really, it started with the words called to lead, and I just felt like deep in my soul that there was something to that, that that was really a bigger facet of my purpose and how I can serve you, not just in this podcast, but [00:07:00] also just.
In my life as a business owner because while I might be a distributor with the amazing company Saint that I work with, I don't feel like that is my calling, right? I am called to this place of using that experience in my network marketing business, ~which I'm not going anywhere in this company. It is. It has been such an incredible blessing, and the makeup is seriously the best thing.~
~Ever, ever. So I'm gonna be ride or die a saint artist until the bitter end. So that will never, never stop. Right.~ But my identity and my foundation is not. Simply as a saint artist, and it's not simply as a podcaster or in my previous career where I owned a boutique in Savannah, Georgia for over 15 years, that was probably the biggest mistake I made was letting my identity be wrapped up in that, right?
So my identity is not wrapped up in all of this, but I do feel that I am called to help those of you who. Are called to lead and who are called to grow your business beyond your own impact and effort. So again, today in this episode, I'm gonna share my mission, vision, and values [00:08:00] to just give you a little bit more of a reason behind why I really feel like the shift is going to help you grow your business.
So. Before I kinda dive into ~those mission,~ the mission, vision, and values, I wanna share some percentages because you've been listening. You know, numbers are definitely my thing, so stick with me. So, in my experience of being off of social media for seven months, I have found that about probably 5% of you, maybe even I.
Less, but probably about 5% actually do desire to use the gifts and the passions centered around content creation to build a following online. So whether that's on Instagram or on TikTok, or a blog or on YouTube, you have that unique passion and skillset where creating that content lights you up and connecting with and serving a bigger audience online is what you're called to do.
That's what you're meant to do. And probably another 5% of people who join a network marketing business. Honestly, don't join with anything other than just to get a discount on the products. Like they truly don't run [00:09:00] a business. Maybe they feel called to lead and serve in a completely different business model, right?
But for 90% of you guys, y'all are network marketers or direct sales social sellers. There's a million different buzzwords, but you guys are trying to build a business within the model that I like to call network marketing. It just kind of sums it all up. You wanna do it coming from a place that's not tied to your own personal effort.
So you might hear this called passive income from, you know, from certain areas. But ultimately what it's all about is you don't want your income and the impact that you make to be all. On you. You want to be able to serve others. You want to be able to help others through the product that you absolutely loved or you probably wouldn't have signed up for, for your, your company that you're with, right?
You have been blessed by the business model and likely you have seen a level of result in your own personal business yourself, but you're in a place where you wanna help other people do it. You don't wanna be the only [00:10:00] one who's having that sense of success. That my friends, if that is you, that is who I am here to help on this podcast.
So here we go. My mission with Call to Lead is to help you grow your network marketing business beyond your own effort. So help you grow your business beyond your own effort. That is what I'm here to help you do. And when I say beyond your own effort, I mean that in three ways. So number one, and here's another integration, bringing back my foundation of faith, which I can't really separate the fact that I operate my business and all of my businesses for the last 10 years since I gave my life to Christ.
I operate those from a place of faith. And what I mean by that is I look to the word to the Bible, which is the most popular book ever written, and pretty much every bit of personal development wisdom that's out there. That means anything comes from the foundations of the word. [00:11:00] And so what I mean by beyond your own effort is first and foremost, that effort and that inspiration comes from the Lord.
And whether or not you're a believer, stick with me. Okay? Because I remember when I was trying to run my boutique business all on my own and I was certainly not seeking the Lord's direction, I still felt, and I can look back and so clearly see when something was a gift from him, when it was an idea or, uh, you know, for example, when I moved my.
Bridal shop off of the busy Broughton Street in downtown Savannah. I moved it into the Midtown area into a more affordable, more approachable, more attainable space for my customers to be able to find me. It was one of the best business decisions I ever made, and I wasn't necessarily looking at that as.
A gift from the Lord. But now it was so clear and when I walked into that space, I could see it just so clearly that I can't help but know that that was a gift and an inspiration that was from him, that I'm so glad that I [00:12:00] trusted that because otherwise I probably would've gone out of business a lot, lot longer ago.
And I actually did sell my my bridal shop back in 2019. And again, that's what gives me the freedom to be able to do this with you guys. So first and foremost, when I say beyond your own effort, I mean you're not doing this thing on your own. You are looking for that. That inspiration, you're looking for that, that wisdom that can come from a conversation with someone else.
It certainly can and hopefully should come from time in the word. And essentially, you don't have to do this on your own. All you have to do is choose faith over fear by taking action on those inspirations when it flows. That's one of the ways that you kind of know, even if it is really scary in the process.
So the number two way that I believe you can build your income and impact beyond your own efforts is through systems that help you automate and duplicate. So those are two words that I am like ridiculously passionate about, and I think that they are. I guess I keep hearing this word, so zone of genius, if you will, that I'm obsessed with systems.
[00:13:00] I love having ways to simplify the way you do your business, how you spend your time in your business, and how they can kind of all work together and integrate to systematize and help you work smarter, not harder. I. So there are so many systems. I've already shared a bunch on this podcast and I'll continue to share that as well.
But that's a way that you can grow your business. Your network marketing business beyond your own effort is through the use of systems to help you automate and scale. So the number three way is duplication. So what I mean by duplication or replication is another word is the magic of network marketing is essentially you can build a business on.
Helping a bunch of other people get what they want. And what most people want when they join a network marketing business isnt to build like some crazy six or seven figure income or to, you know, retire early or anything like that. They want to share a product that they love in the hopes of being able to make a little bit of extra money to serve their [00:14:00] family.
So that looks different for everybody. It. For you, it might be, you know, when you joined, it might be just getting a little bit of extra pedicure money or maybe some money to buy Christmas presents for your kids or cover your car payment or cover the cost of this crazy inflation. For me, when I joined, I needed and wanted to bring in an extra $2,000 a month to be able to supplement the income from my business because even though we were.
Grossing almost a million dollars. I was not paying myself much. I definitely paid my manager more than I paid myself because she was the one who was there on Saturdays while I dropped my kids off at daycare Monday through Friday. So I spent Saturdays with them. I. And I essentially got paid last, and especially in time in hard times, which oh my goodness, in 15 years and you know, through the last recession, I know what it feels like to essentially get paid last.
And so for me, that was what I wanted and I had a clear vision for, for what I wanted, and that that money wasn't just tied to what the material aspects could buy. It was tied. To [00:15:00] allowing the freedom to be able to be with my family and to be able to give and to be able to serve my church and to do all of those things.
So duplication is the way to do that is it's not focused on this like, get rich quick scheme or, you know, convincing people to sign up so that they can retire earlier, become a millionaire? No, it's to clearly and simply show people how they can. Purchase and invest in your product or business model, how they can make back that investment as quickly as possible.
And that should always be the goal, the number one first goal, and then continue to share about it in a way that they can remain profitable and debt free and help others do the same thing. That my friends is duplication. That is how you build an income that goes so far beyond just selling a bunch of your product online as a social media influencer.
Okay? So those are the three ways tied to my mission that I want to help you grow your network marketing business beyond your own effort. Okay? [00:16:00] Wisdom and guidance from the Lord systems to help you automate and simplify. And number three, duplication. So your income and impact aren't tied to your own efforts.
Okay? So that's my mission, my vision. So my vision and how this is different. This is what I. Dream of the result of this podcast being, and this is something that even long before I was podcasting, I, I felt very, very, you know, called to be a part of. And that is essentially to uplift this industry. And help those who wanna be a light in this business model and do their business the right way.
So if you're like me, you probably have seen some like online YouTube videos, like bashing network marketing, bashing direct sales, social selling, and almost always that is tied to someone's experience with someone in the industry. Who is doing things the wrong way. And what I mean by that is there's two different ways to do this business.
You can do it focused on serving other people through the product that you [00:17:00] offer and through the business model that your company creates, right? Or you can focus on what you're gonna get from it, and essentially how your people can serve you. Whether that's how your team can serve you by getting active or doing whatever it is that they have to do to hit their minimums to help you, or whether that's your customers that are trying to help you reach a goal.
When you're doing this business the right way, you're looking at it from a place of how you can serve others, which is exactly what the entire Bible to sum it up, calls us to do, right? Like the, the mission now that Jesus has come is essentially to love God and love people as you would want to be loved yourself.
And that's all people, right? That's all including the haters out there on YouTube. So. I have through my experience in my company and a previous experience in another company, and through countless interviews, through countless conversations of other leaders in many different companies throughout this industry, I believe that this can be something that can be a [00:18:00] vehicle that can change your life.
And I believe that a lot of times when you get that inspiration or that feeling or that, that calling to buy that kit or invest in it. That assuming that you're doing it from the right place, you're not just doing it to help your friend, you have to do it because you love the product, you love what the company has to offer, and you wanna be able to help others be able to do the same.
So. Yes, there is some darkness that is in this industry. I find that it absolutely, just like a lot of other different industries, I mean, shoot, I worked in corporate America for a year and that was insane. The different kind of temptations, if you will, that come out from working in really any different business model.
But in this one particularly, it can have people lean into greed. Envy is a huge thing. Comparison. I know that's something we all face. And one of my very favorite, actually business trainings that I've experienced in my company was when our CEO Kara Brook, she actually had her sweet mom, Nancy, share with us the power that the [00:19:00] darkness kind of sucks us in and it caused to us.
So whether that's comparison or gossip. Or just, you know, getting down on ourselves. And for those of us who are believers, we know none of those things are from the Lord. But she said that we have to intentionally seek the light. And what she meant by that is we have to be intentional about being a light and be intentional about making the right choices and choosing not to do things just to satisfy our flesh or.
Just to make money, but essentially I want to help those of you who want to be a light in this industry like me, I want to be able to uplift the entire industry through those of you guys being able to use this as a tool for a mission and for a bigger purpose than just benefiting from it yourself. So that's my vision.
So the values, this is real exciting, and this is again, to bring back that word, integrate. This is how I kind of plan to tie it all together, and this will help you know what you can expect moving forward with the podcast. So the values and how I want to help serve [00:20:00] you and your business is first through developing a foundation of faith.
So again, you might be listening to this and you might not yet be a believer, you might not have given your life to Christ. We're all a different. Places on this path, but at the same time, I can't help but sprinkle in the wisdom that is found in the word, because I know it works. I've seen it in myself, I've seen it in others, and I've seen the fulfillment and the joy from those who lean into the Lord to build their business rather than trying to do it all on their own. So foundation of faith is the first value, the second value. Is, that's where scale without social comes in, because that's helping you identify social media alternatives, not avoid social media altogether. 'cause that's what was kind of tricky for me with scale without social is I wouldn't necessarily tell someone they should not have social media.
Okay. Myself included. In fact, my husband who told me to go off the social media accounts when I first started this, he was the one who was like, I think you need to get back to Facebook. I'm still praying about that because I, I don't miss it to be honest. It's so nice to be able to [00:21:00] just not have to worry about things like that, but.
Truly, it can be a blessing to be a facet of building your business, but it's not the only way. There are ways that are time tested and proven, and I am still very much committed to sharing with you those strategies to help you do that along the way. So number three is success leaves clues. The way that I'm gonna help serve you, and that is by doing some interviews like I've already done on this podcast.
And the real exciting part is I have already done some amazing interviews on my other channel called Stories of Light that I'm no longer actively or have not been actively building, I should say, or recording episodes for there, but I need to be bringing it back. On this podcast by sharing the stories of those in the network marketing industry and the social selling sphere who are doing it because they feel called to something bigger and because they point every bit of success they've had back to the Lord.
And so those stories of light, if you will, and the fact that success [00:22:00] leaves clues and that you can learn. From the stories and the testimonies of others to be able to build your business. That's gonna be a big facet of this podcast moving forward as it has been from day one. Number four, it's gonna be systems that scale.
And what I mean by that is there are systems, whether it be text marketing or systems for your, your team and how you should do things like recognition or onboarding your new customers. And these are things that I, a lot of them, I've learned from my mentor, Bob Heilig, he's incredible. I. And I am so excited to be able to kind of pass along that, that knowledge and the application, and specifically the tools and techniques and, and strategies and all of the things that have helped me build my business.
I'm gonna help you build yours using those same systems. And then finally, this is also something that I've been passionate about for quite a long time, and that is building a profitable and debt-free business. So. That is something that I made the mistake of in my previous network [00:23:00] marketing company. I was talked into buying a huge inventory beyond what I could afford and putting it on a credit card.
Thankfully, I did work and I did make that my laser-focused goal to pay back that debt as quickly as I could, and I was able to do it in about six months. But unfortunately, that meant that the money and the time and the impact that I. Spent within that six months didn't really put any money in my pocket.
It was just going back to paying off that debt. Whereas with my current company, I bought what at the time, was one of our smallest kits because I was so scared to make the same mistake, and I was profitable actually from my first social media post. So that's the cool thing is, is I'm gonna help you guys start and grow your business from a place of being profitable and remaining debt free, because that's something that I have found to be just a huge blessing in my life.
So. Friends, that's my mission, my vision and values for how I want to serve you through the Call to Lead podcast.
