163 | Meet the Founding Partner Mentor: Sophie Winchester
===
[00:00:00] Hey friends, welcome back to the Called to lead podcast. I am so excited to interview another founding partner mentor, miss Sophie Winchester, which I have also been wanting to share Sophie's story on the podcast for literally years. We go back for. I mean, many years together, we actually live just about 10 to 15 minutes down the street from each other.
But y'all are going to love Sophie's story because it's different than mine. She was a fellow top leader in another network marketing company, which is how we bonded and she's got so much wisdom to share. So let's dive into this week's episode. [00:01:00] ~ ~Yay, Sophie. I'm so excited to officially share your story and so glad to have you here.
So excited to be here. I can't believe it's actually happening. I know me too. Cause seriously, we have talked about doing this interview, ~like,~ honestly, from like the first time that we met, which was through doing yoga together. Right. So, and what's really crazy is we, we kind of [00:02:00] connected over our love for network marketing and for the industry and our love for even sharing stories and podcasting, and I know you were even, and still want to like, You know, grow a podcast, which is really cool.
And so it's just really wild that first of all, we're doing Restore Collective together. But second of all, that this is finally happening. We get to share your story on the podcast and introduce your beautiful story to the world. So for those that don't know Sophie, she Has ~a,~ an amazing experience as a top leader in not Seint ~um,~ I'll let her share as much as she wants to about, about that story and journey.
~Um,~ but I just really think that that diversity of the background of her experience from a completely different company with a completely different compensation plan structure, it's already been such an incredible value to the founding partner mentor team. And so I just can't wait~ to,~ to learn more, even myself from her wisdom.
So Sophie, just tell us more about like, just the basics where you're from, you know, your family and ~your,~ your background in network marketing. Yeah, well, I grew up [00:03:00] outside of DC and went to USC for college and met my husband, we got married, he was in the military. So after that, we just kind of traveled.
All over and, ~um, ~had kids pretty quickly, ~um,~ have four awesome children, ~but I was, um, ~so we're network marketing and like, I guess entrepreneurship kind of came to me, it was being a military wife and I decided to take a fitness class. And this was back in 2000. So this was after I had three kids, but they were like all little, like three.
Three, one baby, you know, like very close in age. And I decided to get back in shape, take these classes. And I went and took this class when I was visiting my family. Cause my husband was away doing military stuff. And I was like, I love this class. I want, I would love to have it. You know where I live and the instructor was like just get certified in it You could do it and I was like, I mean, I guess I could like I could do it And so I mean and that right there is just like the power of belief in someone like how someone can just pour life into you and that literally [00:04:00] changed ~like~ the trajectory of ~like~ our finances or life because it just made me realize ~like~ I can do this and I can still be a mom and I can still be a good what you know, like It just empowered me to go after some of those things that I kind of lost along the way in the, in the midst of ~little,~ little kids, like you forget sometimes that you still want something outside of that.
~Um,~ but I didn't want to sacrifice anything of being present with my kids so that I got certified. I started teaching those classes and from there is actually where I met. The person who introduced me to network marketing and I was invited to this event at her house and like, Oh gosh, she's going to try to sell me something.
I don't know about this. And then I really quickly realized that, ~like,~ I actually really liked being a part of community. And I really was intrigued by the fact that she had mentioned like, yeah, this has become a career for us. And my husband's able to get out of the military. And I,~ like, I~ remember being like, wait.
You make money like this is real. Like, how are you doing this? And she was always at the gym and my classes. And I would have had to teach like [00:05:00] 5 million classes to make, you know, enough income to actually provide or provide that opportunity for him. If you want it to make a change. You know, at that time, I kind of thought he was a lifer in the military.
So that wasn't really the big goal, but just kind of to take some of that burden off of him. ~Um,~ and I love buying people coffee. So anytime, like I'd go see a friend, I'd want to buy them coffee. And then he'd remind me of our budget. And so I was like, huh, I'm going to make at least some extra money to buy people coffee every time I want to.
And he's very giving too, but like, you know, be responsible with that. ~So, um. Yeah.~ So I basically, from that moment, I heard that I was like, I'm diving in. And so I was able to build my business just by building those relationships and sharing just that possibility that I heard that I was like, if this is possible for somebody This is possible for me.
And I just kept taking that next best step. And like, that's something that I'm so passionate about is ~like,~ you don't always have to know the how or what's going to happen, but just taking that next best step to achieving whatever your goal is. And [00:06:00] I think my goals grew as I grew. So initially it was coffee, you know, next it was, ~um,~ enough to get a cleaning.
So someone to help clean around the house, you know, just little goals that I was slowly able to be like. Oh, if I, if I can do that ~and like, and then it was,~ and then it shifted from like, if I can do this, it started being like these other people in my organization were like, Hey, I would love this for my family or I need this, or we just need groceries.
~And,~ and I realized, ~um,~ really quickly when ~someone specifically just like,~ she was very successful, very fast and like how dramatically that changed their financial life. ~Like ~was like, wow, the power of this business model. ~Um,~ Just I, from that moment was just obsessed with and so thankful for, ~um,~ knowing about that opportunity.
And so, ~um,~ from there, it just allowed me to have doors open into so many other opportunities. ~Um, do we want to. Go into that or, yeah, actually I do. I have a specific question about that, but~ what I love so much about your story and it's kind of clicking for me that there are different phases within, like, you don't just go from enrolling to a top leader, helping other people build their [00:07:00] business.
Like, I mean, rarely, right. Or say. Now, you might, if you've had a background in another company, but what I mean is like not having done network marketing, going to a party, whatever that looks like, and then enrolling. And then it, like, it takes this journey and you're right. It, when it's done the right way, you can be inspired by the top success of someone and, you know, retiring their husband, having, like, I can remember seeing your beautiful Mercedes when I would go to Starbucks.
I think it was even before I knew you, I was like, that car is amazing. And that would be Mercedes. Anyways, but, ~um.~ You know, people can be inspired by that, but truly most people join with small goals in mind. So the fact that you started with the coffee and then, you know, the cleaning lady, and then it kind of grew from there, which we'll talk about specifically how it wound up serving like your multifaceted, multi entrepreneurial spirit.
Which I love. ~Um,~ but ~the,~ you don't just go from A to B. You go, you start and grow your own goals. Then when you realize, wait, okay, if I'm doing this in a way that other people can do it too, then the fun part really begins because then it's about helping them [00:08:00] achieve their little goals, which become big goals.
And they kind of go and grow from there. And that is how you build a successful network marketing business is. by setting small goals yourself and then helping others do the same. And that also kind of aligns with our comp plan and like the four phases, you know, which are meant to kind of naturally guide people on that journey as well.
And everybody, even if they are a top level, our pinnacle leader, which is the top, you know, of the company or platinum pinnacle partner, even before you get there, you have to start at profitable partner and, you know, grow all the way up. So anyway, I love, love that you shared that in your story. But let's talk about your still to this day, multifaceted heart of, you know, whether it's fitness or acting, ~um,~ cause you get to do all kinds of fun, things like that with how this industry has allowed you to be able to do many things in your life outside of being a mama.
So, ~um,~ you know, when I built my business, I never actually stopped teaching fitness classes because I love that, but I was able to lesson and kind of be more picky on like, okay, I'll choose this or I'll do [00:09:00] it here or pop up class here. And so it allowed me the opportunities to be flexible with that. And then I really felt like there was this creative piece missing, ~um,~ that like, I just felt like I had this itch to pursue something.
And that's my personality. ~I'm,~ I'm. Very creative and I, and I like to be pursuing things. ~Um,~ but I had this drive. So I was like on set. I, I got on set as just like a background job. And I realized ~like,~ I really love being around all these people that have these different goals and different walks of life and just getting to know them and kind of have my eyes open to a different community of people.
~Um, and~ So of course, ~like~ being goal driven, I was like, if I'm, I want to do more of that, like, I want to, I want to take this a little further. So I started with community theater. ~I did. Um, ~and then I started, you know, doing more with acting in film and, ~um,~ taking that next best step. But I wouldn't be able to do that if it hadn't been for the income that I was consistently still bringing in, because when you're on set and you meet a lot of people, ~like.~
A lot of times they're really struggling, like they [00:10:00] really want to pursue this, and a lot of times they can't because They have to get something else to just pay the bills and it's hard, it's hard to do both. ~Like,~ it really is hard to have a full time job and pursue creative outlets like acting or theater, ~um,~ because of the time commitment.
~Um,~ so yeah, ~that was really,~ that was really like a driver for me is that ~like,~ wow, this gave me the opportunity to do this. ~And then, um,~ and then also that was around when my, like my husband had gotten out of the military. ~Um,~ because of building the business and having that security. And ~he,~ he doesn't want to retire.
You know, like he taught himself a whole new career, how to be a software developer, ~um,~ and pursue that, which was really crazy cool. Cause it gave him that opportunity. So it wasn't about ~like~ just giving me the opportunities, him having an opportunity to be able to go to school, teach himself, have the time to do that.
help out and be more present with the kids. ~Um,~ and so us as a family, being able to be more present. And then as I started pursuing these things, I realized I don't want to go all in and in, in this, like necessarily [00:11:00] like an acting, let's say, I don't want to go all in at the expense of my family. So I don't want to go to the point where it is a full time income.
I'm not sure I want to be there because I was starting to miss a lot of time with my family. So I had to pull it back a little bit. And I kept feeling God be like, Hold on, wait, like, hold on. This is good, but don't miss what you want to do. And being a mom was literally like my goal in life. Like it was a dream come true.
~I've like,~ I felt like I already accomplished all my goals when I had my kids, but I keep also wanting to show them. that something's a little scary and I feel like I don't know if I can accomplish that. It's like there's something in the back of my head that says, you better go do that. Show them that it's possible and that you can pursue new things at any age.
Cause when I tell them, well, the only thing stopping you from doing it is working hard and putting in the work and having fun with it. and talking to the right people and connecting and being an encouragement. Like the only thing stopping you is you. So if you want something, you can do it. [00:12:00] I feel like I have to walk that walk.
~Um,~ and I like walking that walk. I think it's empowering ~to,~ to a lot of people, ~um,~ just to know that we're not stuck, ~um,~ in our situation. So that was a long answer. No, it's so good. I was like, so much gold and so much wisdom packed into that and I feel like we can unpack that. That's why I keep thinking, I'm like, I want, I want you to grow this podcast.
So maybe let's interject that just for people who are kind of curious where, ~like,~ talk to me about the whole podcasting side of it. Because I do think you've got such a beautiful story, even outside of Restore and, you know, the acting and being a mama. So let's talk podcasting for a minute. Yeah. Okay. The podcast that I haven't done started as a blog that I never really actually did.
~Um, and, um,~ so the title, I get mixed reactions. The blog title that I came up with, like back when,~ um,~ back in college, I think it was. And I, I sketched out a little image was it all starts with your underwear and it's going to sound really weird. So [00:13:00] one of my friends was like, I don't know, people will think it's like a different kind of talk, but I was like, well, just roll with it.
Okay. So I got injured. I was a. competitive cheerleader. I got, I hurt my knee and had to have surgery. So I had to like sit out. And so the first human forever being like, having been a gymnast and a cheerleader, like I stopped moving. And so of course, like my body started changing a little bit. And that's also when I was like, 16, 17, 16, 17.
And you know, your body's changing anyways. And so for the first time in forever, I was starting to like, realize like, Oh, these, this feels a little snug or this doesn't feel quite right. And my body doesn't seem like what it was doing before. And I, and I think it was not until I got to college where I came back home in the summer and I didn't want to go out with friends.
Cause I was like, nothing looks cute. Nothing fits right. ~Like.~ And I just had this moment of, ~like, ~literally instead of thinking about your underwear that's digging in, [00:14:00] go out and buy new underwear, you're good! Like, you don't have to go on this mass diet, like, do whatever you want to do to get healthy, but You don't like literally what step can you take right now to get to where you want to go and sometimes we want to have this whole plan in this whole picture and it's just literally just taking that ~next step like~ next best step to feeling more like yourself ~um~ and just being able to go you know go out with friends and not think about your underwear digging in so.
Oh my gosh. There's so, well, who listening thinks that Sophie needs to start this podcast. I mean, obviously podcasting is the new blogging. You can do the blog too. She's a transcripts. There's all kinds of things I can show you, but I think you've got to bring the story because not just like from the negative way that you might be feeling and Roger is going to literally kill me for sharing the story, but I feel like I'm just going to let the Holy spirit just roll with it, roll with it.
He maybe won't know or listen. We'll see. But so Roger, many of you know, Roger and I are starting This company together and [00:15:00] a big part of that is he actually sold his business Just a few weeks ago actually so that he can make this his full time job, right? And Guess what his first big purchase was After he sold his business I want to say underwear.
New underwear! And it's because he had this one pair, they're Free Fly, which, girls, ladies, if you're listening, it's a fantastic gift for your man. ~Um,~ but Free Fly, he actually got the wrong ones. Make sure to get the one with the Open fly. Anyways, I digress. They're like boxer briefs and like it was life changing for him because he had this one pair that he wanted to wear every day and he's like, okay, you know what, the one thing as I'm going to be sitting here building this business that can bring me joy is to have the underwear that I am wearing every day be amazing.
And so I think there's so many different facets of how you can relate to just that one simple thing. And it also reminds me on my little bookshelf, ~um,~ I'm pointing here, if you're watching the videos, I have the, I don't remember what it's called, but it's something, I think it's just called make your bed.[00:16:00]
And it's the same idea that like, if you just start with something simple that our mom, well, my mom didn't teach me, which is why I still don't always make my bed, but you know, something simple like that can be the, the trajectory to change everything, whether it is your, your personal, ~um, you know,~ self worth, self belief, or just the little things that bring you joy in the day.
So you need to do it, Sophie. Yes. All right. Well, so let's kind of like, I love one of my favorite parts of our story is how in the world we actually came together with restore and it was the coolest thing because you said, well, I'll let you tell the story, but, ~um,~ right in the midst of when Roger and I were like, Oh my gosh, I think we're starting a company.
We're gonna start a makeup company. You sent me a message, like a random message, just kind of checking in. So kind of take it from there and tell us how you got, ~um,~ involved with restore. Yeah, well, so it's crazy because I felt this nudge to kind of like step back from a lot of things. Like I'd gone all in on acting.
I felt like I needed to pull back a little bit just to be [00:17:00] present. ~Um, I had,~ I had, you know, like we talked about built my business in network marketing. And I felt like I had to pull back. ~Um,~ and I just kept being like, God, ~like,~ but you see the bill, like, right.~ Like,~ are you sure I'm supposed to pull back?
And he knows, he knows all of it. And he knew that I needed to let go a little bit. Like I needed to do that. to pull back in order to be, like, refined and, and just fix some of my mindset that had gotten, like, a little heavy. ~Um, and,~ and God says, He takes our burdens. They give it to Him. And so, that was a practice on its own, to do that.
But, I'm stubborn, and I kept Feeling like God was like, reach out to Heather, reach out to Heather. And I'm like, but I don't really want to do that. I don't want to jump over that company. I like, I did nothing against the company. It was just like, I didn't feel like that was the right move. So I just kept being like, okay, God, like I'll just table that.
We'll just keep it there. And then when I found about, you know, ~like this,~ everything happening with Heather's business, I was like, ~um, not~ her [00:18:00] business she's building now, but her network marketing business, I was like. I, I, like, I'm gonna just check in with her because that's awful. And I just felt for you.
And I felt for everybody in that situation, because ~like,~ I intentionally pulled back, I still was able to have that repeat income coming in and like to have something, just whatever. But we won't, we won't go there. But I just felt like I needed to check in and, and God kept saying, just reach out to Heather, reach out.
Cause I kept looking at our budget. I'm like, how is this all working? How is it going to work if I keep pulling back?~ And, um, ~and I literally, I feel like that's when I sent you a text and I was like, I have been thinking of you, everything going on, you know, just wanting to make sure that you're good. And I just feel like, I think it was something along the lines.
I have the worst memory. So correct me if I'm saying something that wasn't true, ~um,~ or ~like~ accurate, but I was like, I just have a, like, God was just nudging on me that whatever Heather was doing next. I was supposed to do, ~like,~ I was just like, whatever she's doing, I'm supposed to be a part of. And I didn't know what, [00:19:00] I didn't know in what way I had literally no idea that she was creating a company.
And it was just so crazy because it was just literally like a text in faith that I cared and I wanted to check in on her, but I also just had this ~like~ nagging feeling like you are supposed to do whatever she's doing next. ~And,~ and so then ~that's,~ that's when I reached out to you and you responded back about like, you're actually.
In the works of like creating restore, ~um,~ at the time with 50 different other names, I'm just kidding, but, ~um,~ it was crazy. It was crazy, like beyond anything that I could have laid out. And, and when God says way, and I even was listening to a worship song this morning, Heather, I feel like you're good with songs, but it says, I'll praise you in the waiting and my faith will stay strong.
And it just felt like that. Like, sometimes it was like, are you sure I should keep waiting? Like, are you sure? And it was so perfectly aligned that he, God was God and God's always showed up in every detail when we, when we don't know it, it's like the heart is just refining and, and opening up. [00:20:00] Possibility and good things.
Oh my gosh, if we just let him lead and we create the space, like you said, pull back from, especially if you are multifaceted and ambitious as you and I both are, like when you're trying to do too much, sometimes you can't, you can't even hear those little small voices when he's like, reach out to this person.
And I just want to normalize, first of all, like when I look back on our journey, like, would I have loved to have you on my.
I'll I'll just say I'll just say anyway. Yes, I would have loved that. But I felt every time we would have coffee or you know, do workouts together. Like, it never felt like, I didn't have that, like, Ooh, you should, you know, invite Sophie to this opportunity call or something. It was just. You know, it was kind of just, like you said, being a good friend, we connected, obviously, on a deeper level there, and that, like, who would have thought that years later, it would develop into something like this?
And the same thing with you. Like, that little, little inspiration that the Lord put on your heart that wasn't applicable in [00:21:00] that current season. Was something that your act of obedience in sending that text like was the perfect catalyst and honestly the perfect timing, even though it really was like, I think you sent me that when I was on the plane to Vegas to buy bottles for the skin care, wasn't planning to do makeup at that time.
And then we came back as I've shared on a couple of the other, ~um,~ podcast stories. Where I was like, Hey, Sophie, uh, you around this weekend and want to come to a Kiowa Island to maybe plan? And you were like, I don't, I like, this was like, how about tomorrow? Like tomorrow. And you're like, I don't think I can come this weekend, but it's just, it's just wild God's timing and his, his like sovereignty over those little whispers and those decisions that might not make sense in that moment.
And we just need to normalize it. It's okay to. And the other thing that I really like about the Lord is that you can just, you know, follow the path of [00:22:00] service and just lean into that connection and the relationships that someone like you and I absolutely like thrives on. So I just, I love that, that the Lord brought our stories together.
And that way it's so cool. It is. It's really cool. Love it. I feel like, ~um,~ I kind of feel like that in, in everything with like my faith journey and ~like~ with walking with the Lord, ~like ~just how God has always just showed up and in the details if I, and I'm bad at being quiet and still, ~um, but if I, if I'm, Like, and,~ and we've talked about this, like through illness or when my kids have been in the hospital and, and it's just like in those moments, like that's where I feel God's presence the most.
Cause he's like, just trust me. And none of nothing else matters. I got you. And it's like, you're, you finally can put everything else aside and just be present with the Lord. ~Um,~ and so sometimes I need situations that I don't want to say that because I don't want another situation, ~but I like, but I do,~ I really had to get intentional with finding that time to rest that are in those emergency situations, ~but, um,~ where he's.[00:23:00]
Always worked in the details there. And ~like, ~even ~when I, like~ my faith personally ~is,~ is also ~like, um,~ just where my dad like was in his faith journey, figuring out, reading the Bible. ~Um,~ and he read about Jesus healing and he prayed healing over me and I had stomach issues and I was healed. ~Um,~ Never had that issue again.
And ~so that like, just how present~ that he cares about all those little details when we just surrender to him. And it's really hard to trust in the moment, ~um,~ and resist sometimes. ~Um,~ but his plans are always so much better and more beautiful than we could have imagined if we just try to stronghold everything and keep it in our way.
Oh my gosh, that's so good. I feel like that was our clip for Instagram. So go follow the restore collective.co Instagram, which is basically kind of live, by the way, which is exciting. So definitely go check, check all that. Sophie helping big time.~ Um,~ on that end of it, ~um,~ also obviously follow Sophie as as well.
And then the Call to Lead podcast is, which you may or [00:24:00] may not know, is where we post all these things. So anyway, that was gold my friend, like, so, so, so good. And you still need to start your own Dang podcast. It's gotta happen . So, okay, now we're going to get into the questions of like, that are kind of consistent for each of the founding partner mentors.
And we're going to start with your strengths. So, ~um,~ each one of you guys took the high five assessment and, ~um,~ it, it's my favorite free tool to just figure out like, what are your top five gifts that you might not even know that you have because they just come natural to you. They're who the Lord made you to be.
And Sophie, your results were self believer. Coach, catalyst, which means like you get it done, empathizer, which like get it done with heart, like, uh, yeah, better watch out and storyteller, which is good. That's why you need to need a podcast, but do you feel like that's an accurate reflection of who you are?
Yeah. I feel like I need to look up what self believer means, ~um, like~ exactly what they're talking about there. ~Um,~ but definitely, definitely the other terms for sure. I, [00:25:00] I love, ~um, ~I love empowering others just to feel. Important and to feel good and to feel like they can do whatever that is they want to do, whether it's something.
Like going and running a 5k or taking a fitness class and they're nervous. ~Um, or, um, you know,~ like I've had a lot of people even in fitness be like, I don't want to go cause I'm worried. People are looking, I'm like, everybody's looking at themselves. Like they're not looking at you, but, ~um,~ it, and really just locking arms with people to feel like they matter.
So yeah, I feel like, I feel like definitely with coach catalyst. Empathizer, ~um,~ storyteller, for sure. I love it. Well, I just looked up self believer on the site and it totally describes you. Self believers are independent, self sufficient people who inspire others with their confidence and certainty. They cannot stand when others tell them what to do or try to control their actions.
Do you feel like that's accurate?
I love it. Versus, I feel like, let me go up to Believer, ~um,~ which is a [00:26:00] similar one that I know a lot of girls have had. So Believer, they're driven by core values that cannot be compromised at the expense of success. Believers get drained if their beliefs and values are questioned or if they have something that goes against their principles.
So they're very, very similar. I think it's, I think the Self Believer, it's like, That's a perfect gifting as a network marketing leader because I think people want certainty like well And certainty is not possible outside because I mean the Lord's like you said the Lord's plans are always better than ours And you know, we cannot know that could be sickness or suffering or heartache or your company changing their compensation plan not restore But you know something like that.
We can't prevent those things from happening But when you've got someone like you that has that confidence, especially when it's in the Lord in his heart plan for you. That is contagious. And I think that's an incredible gift. ~Um,~ and certainly a valuable founding partner mentor asset. So I love it. Well, the next question is, and this is a tough one I know, but if you had to pick one of our 12 core [00:27:00] values as the one that kind of resonates the most with you that just, you know, like when you maybe first heard it, like just kind of, kind of stuck with you.
Oh my goodness. I don't know. I feel like.
They, I don't, I just feel like the whole heartbeat in the company is what resonates, ~like, um,~ honestly, it's like oozes out of you, Heather, so, ~um,~ I think, like, the person that you are ~is,~ is really reflected and who God created you and molded you into, ~um,~ because I know you've, you know, had your own growth journey, but, ~um, I don't know.~
I don't know if I can take one. I know. I put you on the spot. And I also love that I did have prepared questions, but I love that you did not like intentionally do it though. Cause some people, they kind of need more structure, even though I find a podcast that is better when you just, when you just blow with it.
So I'll accept your answer this time. Cause I don't think I could, I don't think I could answer. I would answer in the same way that you, that you would. So, ~um,~ I think that sounds like a good answer, and for the great words, because That's probably, ~like,~ in the personality [00:28:00] test that I, ~like,~ resist taking, but the fact that, ~like,~ I'm like, I don't want to know ahead of time, I don't want to be constrained by these rules, ~um~ And I definitely feel like I, I love values, but ~not,~ not structured roles.
But that is something that I really actually admire too about, ~like ~Heather. And that's something I always admired about her is how good she is with like, systems and structure. And that was something that I like really was drawn to because I'm like, I could fly by the seat of my pants and I'm such a heart feeler and, ~um,~ passionate and that I'm like, I'll make something happen.
~Like,~ I'm not gonna convince, like I, I'll believe in something. ~Uh,~ you're gonna believe in it. ~Um,~ but. Yeah, so I feel like Yeah, I would sayres. No, I love it. Um, and you know what, actually I feel like, what's, what's kind of cool, 'cause we were talking even before we hit record about, ~um, ~because ~you're not,~ your background is not in makeup.
I'm, you're gorgeous. I'm sure you've done your own makeup for, you know, some of the acting roles and you know, things like that and stage. ~Um,~ but when it comes to like the simplicity of this makeup, it's truly made for someone [00:29:00] like you who doesn't. really know how to do it. And so we were talking through like the systems of doing it.
And I think one thing that sets you apart, and this kind of leads into the next question, which is like, what's going to be the kind of differentiator of your branch of our beautiful tree that we're growing here at Restore. And I think before I ask you what you think is going to set your branch apart, I think one of the things that is special about your story is you weren't a top leader.
I mean, you were a top leader, but you weren't. At a makeup company like you're not a makeup artist So like your experience with the simplicity of our makeup systems is What I think is gonna resonate with women who feel the same way that want that, you know They're just like just show me how to do this because I don't know what stippling is or what I'm supposed to do with this Brush, I've never even you know So outside of that and the freedom that comes with others who might not feel like they're also makeup girls What do you feel like is gonna set your branch apart?
Knowing that the unique facets of it is a part of what makes your culture beautiful Oh, goodness. I, I remember hearing this [00:30:00] question on one of the other interviews. I ~guess I, I, um,~ remember the questions, but~ I, ~I think that like, because we are all so different, ~like,~ that is so beautiful and makes up that tree.
So initially, I struggle to answer this because ~I, I, ~I just think ~everybody,~ every branch is perfectly beautiful for the people that are meant to be there. And so I think that,~ um, But like you said, like, and, oh,~ we need to explain stippling is I learned about this morning. Like, it's like tapping, right? I would, I would be like slamming it.
So anyways, I think that is, though, a huge part of who I am is that like, I am a huge advocate of not really knowing what you're doing and just going for it. ~Like,~ I've done so many auditions where I literally was, ~like, horrendous. Like,~ it was bad. And after the call, I'm like, that sucked. ~Like,~ that was really bad.
Like, I, wow. But I think, I'm like, also feel really proud of myself when I do something and I, and I don't. Really know what I'm doing. The fact that I just did it, and I think [00:31:00] so many of us have these dreams and things that like tug at our hearts. And so many people that I talk to are like, I would love to do that, but I would love, I would love this for my family.
But I would, and I think it's, it's where you can just take that step, like imperfectly, ugly, messy, you're gonna fail. You can own your failures, you can, you're gonna struggle with things. You're like, and, and that's part of the journey. And that's. That's like beautiful part of it. It's like when I'm failing or things feel really hard, like I know that I'm on the right track, like there's a breakthrough coming.
And so I think that is like just something to be like, as you are, let yourself have those goals and those dreams. And like, and, and I'm, and I am a dreamer. And I, a couple of times, like I took that offensively when people have said that in the past, I was like, I'm not just a dreamer. Like I'm into it, but like, I do feel like.
We all have these dreams and we squash them or people squash them. Maybe it's someone else ~saying like,~ and even [00:32:00] when I started my, ~um,~ network marketing and business,~ like~ my husband was like, Yeah, no, ~like,~ no, I don't, that's like, he loved me, he supported me, but he just couldn't see the vision. And so many things in life, ~like,~ we don't, we, we're scared to~ like,~ pursue.
That thing, because we're like, no, that's not the traditional way. Or that's not how the book says to do it. ~Or that's not how, you know, and like, ~it's just being willing to take that messy, ugly next step and like locking arms with other people that are willing to do it ugly and messy together. So I think that I guess would be my giftiness, like doing it messy.
I love that so much. That is so good because I feel like that when people ask me, you know, like, how, how do you know how to start a makeup company? I'm like, are you kidding me? I don't know how to start a makeup company. I'm like, I'm figuring it out as I go and, you know, we, Roger and I always say, it's like, we're building the plane as we're flying it.
And is that kind of scary? And does that mean that like, we're going to get some things Like wrong and make some mistakes. Yeah, we already have, but [00:33:00] do we trust that the Lord is the one carrying this thing? And actually, I just read yesterday and Isaiah 40:31 which is one of my favorite verses. It's like, we're going to soar on wings like Eagles because our hope is in, is in him.
And so I think, you know, even if someone's not a believer when you can kind of realize that failing forward is how you're going to have success in any endeavor, whether that's acting or. Direct sales, like that's, that's the ticket. And so I think you're leading by example in that. I know is going to serve those so well ~that, that, um,~ that are on your, on your branch or on your team.
So speaking of, ~um, ~the next question is, you know, for those that are listening, cause we have a lot of people who don't know you guys, right? Like who, who are, ~um,~ because we won't take enrollment straight to corporate. You can't even buy product without, you know, selecting a partner and advocate first because we're not trying to build a restore brand.
We're trying to help other people build businesses themselves through the restore products. And so, there are a lot of people who are [00:34:00] searching for their own founding partner mentor or their own branch. So if you had to kind of speak to the heart of those listening and describe someone that would be an ideal Partner or advocate, ~um,~ for your team?
And I know that's a really tough question, but ~just who, what, what would she, she or he, or~ what would they look like? ~Yeah. Um, I, you know, I, I don't,~ this question's a, a hard one because~ I just, I,~ I want anybody, whether like when you're listening or you're thinking about doing it, it's just like if you're already listening right now and, and you already are looking,~ um, that there's.~
~Like,~ you're not going to go wrong with anybody in this organization.~ Um, ~everyone like loves and cares for one another and wants good for you. ~Um, and so wherever. Like~ if you just have that tug, like I just, I guess I just want to empower you if it's with me or with anybody else. ~Um, so I, I,~ I want you to just know that like that tug's there for a reason.
And to take that step and pursue those goals, ~um, you know, try, try the products.~ Pursue the goals and building a business. ~If, um, I mean,~ specifically that's the [00:35:00] question is about building your business and who to lock arms with. And I think you, you're not going to be in bad hands anywhere in this company.
And, and that's where I truly feel like the Lord kept saying, even though I'm like, I don't like, why do you, I don't know how to do this makeup, you know? Like, and that's why I just feel like God, if he's giving you that tug, he wants you here and And trust where you're meant to be, like where you're supposed to go.
And ~it's,~ it's going to be awesome. And we're all going to walk arms with you anyways. Oh my gosh. Yes. And you know what, especially cause you have a cheer background. I mean, I wasn't as, um, as good as you were, but I also do love cheer and like, from the beginning, we've talked about it. It's like a kick line.
Like we are truly all aligned together and your abundant heart. amazing. Second of all, it is a reflection of how we all feel. And so, and I think your story and mine of how like the direct inspiration, again, whether someone attributes that to the Holy spirit or to the Lord, that's up to them. But when you can follow that, that little whisper [00:36:00] that makes it clear and you can kind of let the other noise drown out, like he, he will.
Bless that decision and fruit will come from it. ~Um,~ even if that doesn't look like making, you know, millions of dollars and hey, it might, but , you know what I'm saying? Like, it's like that shouldn't be the goal. It should be obedience to ~that,~ that direction. ~Um,~ yeah, so I love, I love that answer too. That's, yeah, and I mean, I think we're all just praying over everyone that would be involved.
And so ~like, so~ you are gonna feel the right spot and the right place to call home, ~um, ~because. Like you are welcome, you know, like we, we welcome you and, and we want good for you and just like how we're all trusting that God wants good for this company ~that,~ that we want to do good things for the world, for the communities, for people, individuals, like as a whole, like just ~the,~ the heart, ~um, ~So yeah, ~lead,~ lead with the, lead with the heart.
Yes. Oh my gosh, I love that. All right, let's wrap this up with [00:37:00] products. So I want to know, well, two things. One, I am repping your two grandma, ~um,~ representations,~ um,~ on the line. And actually what's really fun is one of them, Marie, ~um,~ which is what's on my ~Um,~ lips and maybe cheeks. I have like a mix going on in my cheeks today.
That's the fun part is you can mix and match, but this is kind of like the cool palette, which we are fellow kind of cool. I'm neutral, but you're cool sister. So, ~um,~ but talk to us about your grandmas that are represented in Marie and then Gloria. Which is the eye shadow that I'm wearing and she's like an amazing neutral that works.
It's going to work on so many people, especially if you're, you know, kind of on the more fair light side. ~Um,~ and actually funny, funny story about Gloria that I'm gonna share really quickly. So my niece is also named Gloria. So she's technically named Grandma because they're all grandma names. My niece is also Gloria and actually got to do her mom, my sister in law's makeup this past week.
And we showed Gloria this color and she kind of looked at it and she was like, Okay. And then she saw Francis, which is [00:38:00] Miranda's grandma, which is like a gorgeous pink shimmery shade that I don't have up here. And she was like, I want that one. And so for a minute, I literally almost was like, okay, Gloria, you can, you can have, you can, this one can be Francis.
But then anyway, I did not, it's a little to change at this point. So I just had to share that little, little quick story that she is in fact Gloria still, and she's amazing. But, ~um,~ tell us the story behind Marie and Gloria. Yeah. So, ~um,~ Marie's actually my mom's side. ~Um,~ so my mom's from Paris. ~Um,~ and she came here for graduate school.
And so I actually never met my mom's mom. So my grandma, my mom's side, Marie, ~um,~ but a really empowering story that I've just always heard about her. Is that she had this like relentless spirit. She was a redhead, green eyes, like fiery, ~um,~ and petite lady. And she, my grandfather was,~ um,~ on my mom's side was in the French military.
So they were part of the resistance, like the resistance. ~Um, so they, um, they were basically, um,~ when [00:39:00] my grandfather. got shot in the leg in World War II. correct my history. That's not my strength. ~Um, but he,~ so she like, she went and got him out of the hospital and took him on the train because she knew that if they found out he was part of the resistance that they would, that Nazi Germany, you know, like, wouldn't be happy about that.
So, went and rescued him and got him out. Like, this little petite So it's, it's crazy cool. So that spirit of, ~um,~ kind of taking care of people and doing ~the, like~ what has to be done, even if it's like not technically what you should do,~ um,~ doing what you need to do to take care of your family. And so I think that's really cool.
~Um,~ so that's another story. And they were like helping, ~um,~ take care of, ~you know,~ Jews then at the time, ~uh,~ that were. Getting all the things that happen in a world or two, but helping take care of them and making sure they were safe So and getting to safety so that's really cool. And that's kind of like parallel [00:40:00] with Gloria on my dad's side.
So my dad he's from the States, but his both his parents ~were ~Came over here because they were Jewish Germany and got into Poland and were able to get away from everything, but definitely experienced, ~um,~ that as children, ~um,~ and then going to, you know, like boarding school in London and stuff like that.
And then my grandmother. Gloria was escaped to Poland and then was able to, they were able to come to the States. So like, just kind of what they went through and overcame, ~um,~ to build a life. And in, in both worlds where it's like French Catholic, German Jewish, you know, like my mom's side, my dad's side, how they overcame things, ~but they're to,~ to help and take care of and, ~um, you know,~ come back for their that they're able to share their, their family and for what's right.
And so it's, it's pretty cool. Oh, that's so cool. Yeah. This is like my favorite question and I'm sad. I didn't start doing this for everyone. ~Um,~ from the beginning of these interviews. And I'm so sad about that. I think, cause I didn't have [00:41:00] all the names set at that point. And so. Got to share all these stories somewhere because like these women, when I think about, well, I think about both my grandmothers represented.
And when I hear your grandmother's represented and even like the multifaceted version, again, like Marie is a very common grandma name. ~Um,~ my step mom is named Marie. It's like all the different women that are represented and the history that comes behind it. It's just so cool. So I just, it is, it is really cool.
It's crazy what, what they overcame. Sometimes when you feel like, I mean, our hard matters and it does matter, but it kind of can give you,~ um, ~a perspective of like, we can do hard things and push through and come out okay. And stronger and make a difference. I love that. So good. So last question of the products that you have tried, which I finally got to get you, I think like, like.
Pretty much all the things. I think you've tried. What is the one that gets you the most excited? Or if you had to pick one, ~um,~ that's your favorite, what would it be? ~ ~So I think, I [00:42:00] think out of everything, I would still pick the skin elixir, the oil. ~Um,~ and because I just like I love my skin feeling, ~um,~ like super moisturized and fresh and like, ~I, I, ~when I go teach in the morning, ~like~ I'm not going to do a full face of makeup, but I love having like a nice moisturized face and just slap on a little mascara and call it a day.
So I love, I do love pink lips. So any version of the pink and ~like,~ cause I'm not a rule follower exactly. I just mix all the pinks and I'm like, that's actually a rule. I just found out that if you add our colors. There's technically 84 shades and so I, I want people, you know, it's like find your perfect shade.
It's like, you know, one third this, two thirds that, or what, you know, whatever that is. So you are following the rules. I love it. Yes. And you did mention that and, and I loved that. I'm like, I thought that was so empowering ~that like you can,~ and literally everything goes on so beautifully and smooth. Like you can rub it in.
Like earlier I was trying to, a new technique I saw Raelynn do it. And I [00:43:00] like put on the makeup, like, and I put on the contour a little bit dark and I was able to like, just move it in. So I feel like it still looks like fresh and good. And I, I think that's like the beauty of this makeup and even not being a makeup, ~you know,~ girl, ~except like,~ I mean, I wear makeup, but like not being a makeup artist, I guess, and not really knowing all the techniques is very, I love that.
Like it's still. You looking like you and you're not covering who you are, but you're like, able to enhance with these beautiful pigments and color and smooth creams. And so, I mean, I obviously love it all, but I would definitely, I think, I think the elixir would be my favorite. My number one. I love it. I usually showcase it, but I realized I don't have mine up here, but I'm sure I'm sure.
I know I have my sample bottle in there ~in, uh,~ in my room. Oh my goodness. Well, Sophie, I have loved every minute of this and I definitely want to hear more on your podcast ~when, when that,~ when that is first coming. ~Um,~ [00:44:00] but I would love for you to wrap us up in prayer as we, as we close out. Yeah. All right.
Father, thank you so much for today. Um, this awesome opportunity to get a talk with Heather here and with everybody listening, Lord, and, um, God, Lord, I just, I pray that, um, whoever's listening, uh, if, if they need a hug from you, that they would feel it. Um, and that they would feel that they're welcome, that they have a place and a purpose and that they have someone that believes in them, Lord.
And I, and I pray that you would just continue to use us to just. Um, shine your light, Lord, to poor life, um, and just to know that you have an amazing purpose for us, and we trust your amazing plans, and I just thank you that you're in every detail, um, even when we're, when I'm stubborn, and I am so thankful that you led me to just Um, be bold and reach out to Heather and in that season of waiting that you just have amazing plans and I, and I pray that we just continue to [00:45:00] surrender to you to, um, lean on you and that anybody listening would just, um, just lean into what you'd have for us.
And, um, and I just thank you for this amazing day and everybody who's listening and I pray that they would just feel refreshed and renewed today. Um, to have pup in their step and just go out and love big in Jesus name. Thank you. Amen. Amen. Oh, friend. That was so good. Thank you so much. I'm so excited.
Thank you, Heather. I love you so much. And I'm so thankful to be here. So crazy. Awesome. Seriously. So excited. This has been awesome. We all have a fantastic week. Stay tuned for more. ~ ~ [00:46:00]
