146 | Restore Collective Core Value: Who Not How
===
[00:00:00] Hey friends. Welcome back to the Called to Lead podcast. So I have loved sharing all of the core values of our brand new company Restore Collective. And we are kind of rounding the corner on sharing all 12 of the foundational elements of why we are starting this new direct sales company. And it has been such a joy to be able to share more details with you along the way.
And so this week's episode is going to be focused on another core value, which is who not how, and I can't wait to unpack this with you and share the reasons we chose this value and hopefully how you can apply it to your business, regardless of whether that's with Restore or not so let's dive into the episode.
Yay.
[00:01:00]
~ ~Okay. So let's dive into this week's episode all about who not how so if you're watching this video on YouTube. You can see, there's literally a book called who not how by Dan Sullivan and Dr. Benjamin Hardy. And it's actually my dream to get them on this podcast, because I love so many of their books together.
So many of their books separately, but this is [00:02:00] definitely one of my favorites. And as we decided to start the company of Restore Collective, and when I reflect back on my business and my years of network marketing leadership, and one of the principles that's been most effective in growing my business with integrity and growing it without the fear or the comparison or the ickyness that can sometimes come with this business model.
If there's three words that I can use to simplify the way to do it the right way, it would be these who not how, because you might be thinking like I kind of was when I very first had this inspiration from the Lord to even start this company to begin with, you might think like, how do you even go about doing that?
Like how does one create an entire makeup line, an entire skincare line, an entire company from scratch? I'm telling you, it's not about the how as much as it is about the who. And specifically we've already been sharing who we're here to serve, which was the really the starting point. Which we figured out really quickly, [00:03:00] it's people that are just like us. It's busy, active families that are, you know, Probably in their thirties, forties, maybe fifties who are trying to juggle all of the things.
Maybe they're an entrepreneur inside or outside of network marketing. Maybe they are a stay-at-home mom of a bunch of littles. But essentially our active families are trying to do all the things and they want things that are fast, simple, safe, easy, and effective. And so starting with that, who kind of helped us to figure out well, okay, what, what are the things that they love? Um, you know, how can we reach them?
Right. But it's, it all starts with that. Who and so I love this book, highly recommend it. In fact, I realized ~that, uh, this, um, ~I had two of them. So I would love to do a little giveaway. This was totally an impromptu thing. But if you maybe share this episode on, let's say, I can't even believe I'm saying this, but maybe on Instagram. Or wherever if you share. This, ~this, uh, ~this episode from our called to lead Instagram. [00:04:00] And you tag us on that.
We will choose one of you guys to win this book. And we'll ship it to you because I have two of them. And that means one of you guys needs it, but it's a fantastic one. And it specifically says the formula for, to achieve bigger goals through accelerating teamwork. So I wanted to start with this because obviously I didn't come up with those words who not how very inspired by it.
And again, it's principally something that I know to be effective. And I'm going to talk you through the, how to use the who, not how in this week's episode. But if you've listened to the other core values so far, you know, that each one of these is also rooted in scripture for us. And so whether or not you're believer. There is so much wisdom found in the Bible.
And so when we were really kind of thinking about why we were choosing this, we wanted to find a scripture that really dove deep into the heart of why we were wanting to use this. So. The scripture for this week's value is at 1 Peter 4:10, which is each of you should use whatever [00:05:00] gift you have received to serve others as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms. So I love this. Love this verse
I mean, I could unpack this thing for days. We probably will pretty much on this episode. But what I love is it also kind of builds on the core value. We talked about last week, which is diversity. And it talks about the fact that each of us has been gifted with unique personalities, different strengths, different appearances, different experiences, different backgrounds, and wherever you are in listening to this, whether you are a partner or an advocate with Restore, whether you are a leader at a completely separate network marketing company, which a huge part of our mission is uplifting the entire industry.
So we're so glad you're. Here, even if you aren't, even if you aren't are who for being a part of Restore, we totally get that. And we'll talk more about that in a minute. But each of us has been given the gift of who we are. And the purpose of [00:06:00] that gift is not just to keep it for ourselves, but it's to serve other whos that are out there. And so ultimately that's why we picked this verse is first of all, it starts with you as a who and acknowledging the who you are and who created you to be that way. And then once you kind of have that figured out, you could know the who's that you are uniquely gifted to serve through your experiences, both good and bad. I'm here to tell you, I wasn't really planning to dive into this, and I think I've talked about it on the podcast, but it's for sure.
One that we need to dive into deeper later, but even the hardest. Scariest, the things that you are hiding and burying and ashamed of and afraid of like your deepest, darkest secrets, my friends are still a part of who you are and I can bet you a million dollars or someone else out there struggling with that exact same feeling and hiding it.
And I'm not saying you have to share and be transparent. That's another value. You know, with everyone, but who knows that [00:07:00] the experiences that you've been through, no matter how hard or how good I believe that those experiences are in your life and that the Lord allowed those to happen to you, not cause them, but allow them to happen so that you can serve the whos that are going through those exact same things. And so I'm going to read the verse again. Each of you should use whatever gift you have received. To serve others. Then the latter half as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms.
So that's going back to diversity, but also the faithful aspect, which kind of speaks to the consistency that's needed to grow any business, specifically the network marketing business. So let's dive into, now that we've done the scripture, we're going to talk about the three reasons why we chose this.
And the first reason, all points back to God who we believe as the source of all of your, who's including you. The original, who in this formula that we're [00:08:00] going to be talking about today. We believe that you were created on purpose. And exactly how you are for a reason to serve His kingdom and to serve others through that.
And so first you have to acknowledge that you, the first who in this. You're going to have different things about you that make you who you are. And when you can look at those things as, as really just facts and not something that you should be ashamed of, or certainly not something that you should try to change.
~Um, ~now certainly you can focus on ways to minimize your weaknesses, enhance your strengths. There are ways like even with like your physical beauty, our makeup is all about embracing and enhancing your natural God-given beauty and being more of who you were created to be. And so there's certainly ways that you can kind of do that and play that up, like make your blue eyes shine with a beautiful eye color,~ um, you know, ~or use some good products to enhance your natural curls.
Those are things that certainly play into the who. But it starts with [00:09:00] realizing the source and the provider and the supplier of you, who you were made to be. But then also realizing that all of your whos that are going to be how you are going to grow your business and how you are going to live a fulfilled life.
And that's with your family, that's even with your kids, is you think about who they might marry or you know, who they hang out with. If you're a mom of two teenagers like me, Essentially, it's, it's all about realizing that the Lord ~and~ he is the source of all of those who's in your life. So~ he, ~the first reason we chose it is because he made you the first who, who you are for a reason, and for a purpose. And you can own all of those things that make you, you, and we want to help you embrace those things at Restore Collective, but also he is the provider of your who's. So the, every single person, if you think about the people in your life that are the biggest blessing, whether that's in business already, whether that's in your family. [00:10:00] Those people, if you really acknowledge it. You know that they are a gift from the Lord in his grace, in its various forms.
They are a gift. Even if some of those friendships aren't always easy. Or even if, sometimes they relate in conflict. I think about my kids and how they argue and fight all the time, but it warmed my heart last night when we were going to bed and Mary, my youngest said to Lawson. My oldest, ~she said, ~she said, Lawson, I love you. And I know she meant it and even though they fight probably more than they don't right now, they love each other.
And I know I'm going to get emotional, but I know that they have been uniquely put together by the Lord to help lift each other up and to help them become more of who they are, which they could not be more different. Right. And if you have kids, you know what I'm talking about, each of us is created differently. And so I want you to think about the people that,~ uh,~ if you're in network marketing and a lot of you guys obviously listening, whether that's Restore or not, are those who's in your life, whether it's your customers, whether it's your, the distributors that are on your team, whether it's your sideline people, they are in your [00:11:00] life for a reason, and the inspiration to connect with them, to continue staying in connection with them, all of those things that is from Him
and so. That's the reason, number one, we wanted to pick this as we want to from a corporate team. Acknowledge the source of all of the who's you included. So that's reason. Number one.
So reason number two is a sneak peek into what is going to be one of our primary training systems for pretty much everything we do at Restore. Including the formation of the focus group, which we've been chatting about the last few weeks and the training of our founding partner mentors, which we have announced in the last few weeks.
And we'll be sending an email update with little intros. ~Uh,~ for each of our 12 founding partner mentors later on this week via email. So stay tuned for that. If you are on that little focus group, email list. And so this. Second reason we chose it is tied to our primary [00:12:00] system, which again, is gonna apply to everything which is Who Invite Next and you'll notice it's an acronym which stands for WIN.
So it's easy to remember. And if you were on my team at Seint you might remember this was something that we rolled out. ~Um,~ pretty much like the quarter or two before Seint decided to change the model. ~Um, ~And so you might already be familiar with this, but guess what? I'm so excited to bring this training in this system over to Restore, because I know it is one of the most powerfully effective and simplified. Approaches to the direct sales system, ~um,~ that I have ever seen or used personally.
And I know that it can bless your business, whether you are in Restore or a completely different company or whatever it is that you do. The Who Invite Next formula is going to be life-changing for you. And so let's break that down. So who is exactly what we've been talking about? Who do you feel like would love your [00:13:00] product as much as you do. Who do you feel like could benefit from the blessing of this business model? Who on your team do you think would love to come with you to Restores homecoming in Orlando? Who do you think is the next top leader on your team? You can ask this question, starting with the word who for pretty much any facet of growing your business. And that is building your customer base.
That's building your, you know, maybe before and after, uh, training, if you want. Like, just for example, just getting the makeup on faces is such a great way to learn more about it. So who could you invite to help you practice trying on the product? So the, who is essentially just anyone that comes to your heart.
And again, if you're prayerful and you're a believer like me, I can promise you, the Lord will give you those people. It's just, it can be really intimidating because we're often taught to make this huge list of who's. And for some of us, like, I mean, my background being a boutique owner for 15 [00:14:00] years, and then obviously a network marketer for seven and a half years, I've got a lot of who's.
I had 400 or 4,500 people on my team before, you know, I think I'm maxed out on Facebook friends. So you may have a lot of whos or you might not have very many at all. You might not have a lot of connections. ~But what we're going to.~ The way we're going to focus on this and our entire compensation plan. Is built around five.
And so it's focusing on the first five who's for whatever facet of your business you want to grow. Now once you've done those five. So who are five customers or five people that you think might love this as much as you do, or who are five people you could invite to do a demo of your product, whatever that product is. Think of five.
And I think all of us know, at least five people. And when you drill it down to the basics and just finding your five, maybe it's who are the five people on your team that you would want to put together in a small accountability group to reach towards their goals. Right. [00:15:00] We can all come up with five people, wherever, whatever phase you are in your business. To invite, which is going to be step two to the next step,~ in that, ~in their journey.
That's going to be right for them in their journey. And then ~what's, ~here's, what's really cool. Is once you've done your five, if you're like, oh, well, I can do that. That was easy. Let me go do it five more times. That is, what's going to allow you to grow at your own pace because for some of us that might happen really quickly, you might can bust out five voice messages. Inviting people to your own focus group survey for Restore, right?
Like that might not take very long if you have a lot of people. And so you can do five more. And next thing you know, you have 10 or 15 or 50 people that you have invited, but starting on just five is going to allow you to really kind of drill down instead of to this big list. It's going to really help you to get prayerful and intentional about the whos that you want to move on to the next step, which is invite. So, what are you doing with [00:16:00] these who's you're going to invite them to something and you're not necessarily going to straight up, just invite them to buy the product or to join your team because in most cases, You kind of have to, as my friend Lauren Verlander, she's an amazing leader on my team.
Not at Restore, but previously at Seint she, ~uh,~ she always talks about it in the form of dating. So just like you wouldn't like want to ask a new guy that you're dating to marry you. You want to date each other. You want to kind of get to know each other and you want to learn more about each other first. You're not necessarily going to invite your who's to become a customer or to become a distributor or a partner, an advocate with you right away. So the best middle step is to invite them to a third party tool, which is essentially that's an old as the Hills. ~Uh,~ term in the network marketing industry, that is basically just anything other than yourself.
So for example, right now, the who invite next, I'm inviting you, the who's the listeners of this podcast and I'm inviting my [00:17:00] founding partner mentors and their who's to invite people to fill out a survey, which is a brilliant example of a third party tool, ~um, ~with Restore. Here's another really fun, exciting update because yes, we will have makeup and we will be sharing more details about that makeup coming soon. But some of you guys might be used to using a survey or a, like a jot form or a color match form for having to help you decide and then get back in touch with you or who's that I filled it out. Well for us, we will have, when we launch a really powerful quiz that is developed by actually one of the top software people that will integrate right on our website to where, when our products launch, you can invite your who's to simply take the quiz. And it's going to help them. Narrow down and figure out exactly which products, whether it's makeup, whether it's skincare, whether it's both. And then specifically, and we've talked, I think I've said it publicly on here.
I know I have with the focus group that our makeup is [00:18:00] going to be curated seasonally, so it will help guide them towards, for example, I'm wearing our neutral palette, kind of our medium tones, neutral palette. That's going to work for a lot of people. And so it will guide them towards whether they're cool toned, their warm toned or they're neutral in the different levels of their skin tones.
And it's really simple. It's really easy. And it takes the pressure off of you for maybe the thing that might hold you back from inviting your, who, which is the fact that like, what are you going to tell them after they fill out your colormatch form for example. Well, whether it's our focus group survey or our soon to come Restore quiz. That is online and so simple. Those are perfect examples of what you're going to invite your who's to. Another example would be inviting your team to come to homecoming, to come to our conference or to come to a local event that you might be setting up.
Just like if you were putting together your kid's birthday party, what would you do? You'd make a list of, Hey, [00:19:00] who do you want to invite to your birthday party, Mary. And you would make that list and you would send them out invitations, whether that's via text message, a printed form. The sky's the limit.
You can choose how you want to do the invitation, but it's as simple as that, who invite. To a third party tool to the next right thing for them. And then that's the end, which is next. What's the next best step. What's the next right thing for your who? And my friends. That's going to be different for each one of them. For example, you know, if you invite someone to fill out the focus group survey for Restore and they ghost you, or you find out they're a top leader at another company, and that might be why they ghosted you.
And they're like, yeah, no, I don't, I'm not really interested in this. You don't necessarily need to follow up with them, but on the flip side, If someone is like, oh my gosh, I heard Heather's podcast about this. I am so excited to learn more. You know, definitely I will fill out the survey, you know, when I get a second, well, say that doesn't happen.
You know, maybe the survey doesn't [00:20:00] come through or someone doesn't take the time to fill out the quiz, but they've expressed excitement. The next right thing that's best for them is to follow up with them and just say, Hey, I know you were really excited about this. There's no pressure, but I just wanted to check and see if you had any problems filling out the survey. Or something along those lines.
And so the next right thing for some people might be to follow up the next right thing for some people might be to let it go. But essentially what is the next right thing for your person? Likewise, I know a lot of our founding or all of our founding partner mentors,~ uh, ~and perhaps actually in this episode, I can link to their individual focus groups.
If you. A lot of you guys might, may or may not know all of them. So make sure you're in the larger focus group where we're going to be doing some video intros of each of them, but they are creating their own communities right now on telegram. And, you know, for example, we had a discussion as a group that it might not be the right next step for everyone who fills out their survey to be in that group, like mother-in-laws or someone who fills it out and says, I'm just here [00:21:00] supporting as a friend. We'll talk about that in a minute, those are all fine and dandy.
They probably don't need to download the telegram app. They probably don't need to get plugged in, to stay in the loop about when they can join or buy or come to an event or things like that. They're truly just filling out the survey to help, you know, in the product development, which is genuinely of part, a major part of why we are even doing that to begin with. So, you know, just know that the next right thing for your, who is going to be different and it's going to vary, and it is going to be up to you to faithfully serve just like our verse talked about to faithfully serve that person based on what's right.
For them. So hopefully that takes any pressure off of you and what I know a lot of us want, like step-by-step systems and that's exactly what the, when. Acronym is designed to do is to drill it down into three simple steps for you to remember who invite next. And that my friends is what's going to help you win in your network marketing business, whether or not that is with Restore or another company [00:22:00] or anything, or even just a secular business who invite next.
And that's the number two reason we chose who not how for our core value. And then finally, the number three reason, and you guys, this is a bit of an unpopular opinion, but I want you to hear it from my heart because it's actually something I've been thinking and praying about long before the shift, ~um,~ where I went from being a top network marketing leader to owning my own network marketing company. And that is that. This business might not be right for some of your who's or our products might not be right for some of your who's I'm here to tell you that I'm a big believer that it, and it can be a seasonal thing.
It can mean that network marketing or your company or your opportunity, or your product is not right for your who's in that season. But I can tell you seasons change. ~Um, ~but what I can tell you is that people's experiences are gonna lend to their decisions and whether that's, they're just swamped and have so much going on in their life, that they can't even think to make something like this, a [00:23:00] priority. Or maybe they don't have the budget right now to invest in a new skincare or a new beauty routine. ~Um,~ you know, or maybe it's that they had a, kind of a bad experience in their last company, or they don't have a great taste in their mouth right now from the industry, which is completely understandable with a lot of companies making major changes.
And so this season might not be right for your who and for some people it's maybe never going to be right. Like, I can think of several people, both my sister-in-laws, ~um, ~my best friend. Probably my mom though. I still think sometimes she could crush it in this business model, but we'll, we'll start with those three.
My, my best friends, both from college and here locally. And both of my sisters in laws, you guys. They're not going to be partners with Restore. They're going to be fans. They love me. They'll help. They are helping. They will be a part of the focus group, all of those things, but they're not the right who for my team.
And I have to be totally okay with that and never put pressure on them. And so from us as a corporate team, from the founding partner mentors, I want you to know that there's never [00:24:00] any pressure for you to, or for anyone to feel like they have to buy or join because ultimately it's up to them. And again, the Lord is the provider of the who's in the right time. And in the right season and a beautiful example of this is Lyndsay Raffield who is one of our founding partner mentors. And it's pretty crazy because there was a time where she was kind of anti network marketing and then she was considering another company and actually talking with someone at that company and kind of considering at least trying it as a customer. And then she met me.
It was totally serendipitous. Totally a God thing. We know Fort without a shadow of a doubt that he put her as a who in my life. Um, completely well now we really know that the purposes are how he's worked at all together, certainly, but at the time, She was really, you know, Unsure about stepping into the role of network marketing. Well, she did wind up joining my team.
She became one of my top leaders. She was one of my whose that helped build out the amazing systems that really helped my team explode and double and [00:25:00] triple and really grow through like some of the wildest seasons in my business. But then guess what? She felt very much called several years ago to step away from her business, with, with the company that we were with.
And I told her, I'm like, you know, what, if, who am I to argue with the Lord for this decision for you? And I completely understand and support you. And so guess what. We stayed in touch and stayed friends and stayed connected until guess what? I needed a who to help me with some of the kind of assistant kind of color, a customer service side of my business.
And so I asked her, I said, Hey, Would you be interested in helping me with some of this. And she said, yeah, I'd love that. And she has been amazing at kind of helping me on those backend systems for gosh, maybe a year and a half now. And from that actually connected her to several other rock stars.
So she got to see, even though. She was no longer feeling called to be a part of the company that we were with or network marketing on that level. She got to see the back end of how the business has [00:26:00] worked and she got to see different personalities and different systems. And she learned a lot in that season of helping to serve others as their who, not on their team.
Right. And what's wild is watching her journey with Restore because we work closely together, obviously in the customer service side, she got to kind of watch this entire journey. And you guys like she actually the very first name, which we had to change. But she literally came up with the very first name of Restore, which is really cool.
And it went from being, you know, Could I do this to being like, maybe I can do this to being like, I'm doing this and now she could not be more fired up. And so you'll hear her story along with more of the other ladies. And eventually I'm going to be interviewing all of them on this podcast. So you can hear their entire journeys as we. ~Uh,~ head into the launch.
So get excited because you'll be able to hear from their hearts, which is great. But Lyndsay is a perfect example of a who that I know was put in my life for a reason. That the season of her being in business with me wasn't was not right until it was until it wasn't until it was again. [00:27:00] And it's been amazing to watch the Lord put who's in her life, unlike, ever before, because she's trusting after him as the provider of those whose.
And so I love that example and there are so many more like that. That I know I could talk about and share, but I think this episode's already getting along again. Sorry, you guys intended these to be quick, but I just knew I could talk. So that's the third and final reason that I wanted to share this.
Is there going to be who's in your life that aren't going to want to do this with you, or aren't going to want to buy your product? My best friend from college, I was telling you about, she never even bought my product from the other company. She tried it. She didn't really like it. She never bought it.
That's okay. I still love her. We're still friends. And who knows? Maybe she'll try Restore. Let's hope so. But if she doesn't it's okay. Because this business isn't necessarily right for everyone. And we've got to let that stigma go in the industry that it's network marketing or bust. Can anyone do this?
Yes. Is this right for everyone? No, not in the season that they are in right now, but it doesn't mean that it might be a no [00:28:00] forever. And who's to say never. Right. You never know. I never thought that I would be starting my own network marketing company, but yet here we are. And I'm so grateful to be doing it with you guys who are who's, who are listening, whether you're a partner and advocate with Restore or someone who's just following along on our journey.
We are so excited to have you as one of our who's in this amazing journey. So again, guys. Your who's and who you are as the Lord is the source of all that. Number two, remember that simple WIN acronym Who Invite Next in order to grow any facet of your business. And then lastly have grace for those that are in a season that doesn't allow them to be a part of your journey as a customer or as a distributor for whatever company that you're with.
So let's close out in prayer. Lord. Thank you so much for these whos that are listening to this incredible message as an incredible inspiration that came from Dan Sullivan and Dr. Benjamin Hardy, but like all good business principles is tied directly to what we see in your [00:29:00] word. And so Lord, just help to center our hearts on the who's that you have put in our life for a reason and help us to have the confidence and the opposite of fear.
Let's have the faith to be able to connect with them on whatever's right for them and their next journey and to invite. Them into that next step. That might be right for them. But Lord also help us to understand that this might not be right for everybody in the right season. And just like you've given me the, my word or my verse of the year, which is renewal.
And it's tied to do not be conformed to the pattern of this ~word~ world, but instead be transformed by the renewal of your mind. Even if something seems like a worldly, good idea for someone. It might not be what you have in mind for them. So just help those listening, discern what the best next step is for you.~ Uh, ~or for them. From you as their who that created them to be who they are meant to be, and just give them the grace to know that others are in that same journey.
And to let that not. instill [00:30:00] discouragement in them, but just help them to just keep doing that next right thing and to help keep focus on those three simple steps who invite next. On the journey to build their business together. And we're so grateful for all of the things and the blessings that we know are from you, especially your son, Jesus in his name.
Amen. All right, guys. Thanks for listening. Stay tuned. As we wrap up the last few and the coming weeks, get excited. yay! ~ ~
