139 | Restore Collective Core Value: Biblical Wisdom
===
[00:00:00] Hey friends. Welcome back to the Called to Lead podcast so, this is an exciting season for the podcast as last week, my husband, Roger, and I announced that we are shifting our focus into our brand new direct sales company that won't launch until first quarter of 2025, but you might be listening to this years down the road, or at some point in the journey before we launched this thing to the public.
But the way that we decided to roll this news out is more importantly than focusing on what we're going to be selling or how our compensation plan is built out. We are going to be announcing the why behind what it is that we're doing. And so today's episode is going to hopefully be a short and sweet one to tackle one of the 12 core values that we have decided are the pivotal foundation for how we intend to grow a strong and beautiful business. And so let's dive in to today's episode, which is all about the first [00:01:00] value that we are incorporating, which has biblical wisdom. So here we go.
[00:02:00]
Okay. So if you missed the exciting news, my husband, Roger and I are starting our brand new direct sales company called Restore Collective with a mission that is, we are committed to simplifying the lives of active families. And the way that we want to do this is we want to establish Christ as the foundational element of everything we do.
We want to equip these busy families with the everyday essentials that they use and love with sustainable, clean and creative innovations for their favorite things.
We want to empower servant hearted leaders to work together, to elevate the entire direct sales and network marketing industry. And then we want to be able to encourage cancer Thrivers by donating a percentage of our profits. So I also announced last week, the 12 core values, and we'll be breaking down each one further.
So today's [00:03:00] value is biblical wisdom. And each one of these values is based in a scripture specifically. And this one in particular is based in my all-time favorite book of the Bible, which is James and it's right at the beginning. And it's James one five, which says that if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God who gives generously to all without reproach.
And it will be given him. So that's the English standard version of that. And so how does that tie back to biblical wisdom? Well, if you were to actually ask God for something, of course you can go to him in prayer, but how do you know without actually literally hearing his voice, which sometimes that happens for people?
I have definitely felt the power of him kind of speaking into me or giving me confirmation in different areas. But it's not usually because he literally says like, Heather, go do this. Or Heather don't do this or here you go, Heather. But I have found in my experience, [00:04:00] especially in my business journey, but in all facets of my life, that when I go to the source of his presence, which is found in the Bible in his words, and the inspired works that are in scripture, then the way that he speaks to me through that, and the way that he gives me, that thing that I'm asking for, which is wisdom.
So there's a lot of things we pray for, right? This is one of the few that says, if you. Ask for it. He, God will give it. And so you might be listening to this and you might not be a believer like me. And I want to first and foremost say that as we incorporate this as one of our 12 core values, that's because it is incredibly important to us, but we want you to know that we value all people.
And if you're not a believer yet, we hope that our. Kind of example, in seeking this specific, amazing book. As the best personal development book that's out there that I know of. As kind of our foundational source can help ~kind of ~[00:05:00] guide you to some truths that might seem pretty familiar in some of the other more secular books that you read. And so we'll talk more about that in a minute, but just know that, you know, we are a company that will be in the secular space in the business world, and there are companies I'm finding out.
Like I just learned that caterpillar is a company that was founded by an incredible believer who of course seeks his wisdom from the Lord through biblical wisdom. But that's exactly how we envision our company being. So it's,~ um, you know, it's, ~it's less of us telling you what you should believe. Or what you should do.
That's an entirely separate value that we'll talk about in a few weeks called freedom. But it's ultimately just guiding you to know where the source of all the wisdom, the ideas and inspiration that we have been given in this and that we'll look for future wisdom and inspiration is found in the word. So here's the three reasons why we decided to choose this. This value for one of our 12 core values.
[00:06:00] So the first reason we chose this value. Is because if you have been a part of the direct sales network marketing, or really honestly, any business venture, you know, the power of personal development and just really looking to great books to tips and tricks, to wisdom for people who've walked the path.
And the example before you. And almost always the most foundationally principle based tips and tricks that you're going to learn are found in the word. And so what's really cool is if you can find the perfect podcast or a great business book. Whether or not, it's been written by a believer. Almost always the things that actually are effective and the things that work and the things they talk about in that book or that podcast, or that course they're rooted in scripture.
And so while I love, I mean, hello, this is a podcast where I hope I share some value that is hopefully rooted in the biblical wisdom. And while I think that is great [00:07:00] and definitely a source that you should. And that we, of course my has been Roger and I as well look to, to kind of supplement and~ kind of ~give a little bit more perspective outside of the actual scripture. We believe that the wisdom that is found in the examples of the stories in the Bible, the literal scriptures, like from Proverbs, for example, And most importantly, the example of Christ and the way he chose to interact with people, the way he talked about money, the way he talked about relationships, the way he talked about sin, all of those things are found in the word. And so if you're looking for personal development, if you want to grow as a person and as a leader, I can't think of a better place to recommend then the word.
And so that's the first reason we chose this biblical wisdom is we want to keep it grounded for ourselves. And again, for our partners, even if you aren't a believer to just kind of know what the Bible says, because. Even people who aren't believers know that Jesus [00:08:00] was an incredible example. And there are a lot of people who maybe believe that he was a prophet. ~You know, ~and might not believe that he is the son of God, but ~if, you know, ~regardless of what you believe, his example is a beautiful one.
And the words that are in scripture are really solid things that you can build a foundation of anything, but certainly found build a foundation of a beautiful business around. So that's the first reason is that. If you're looking for wisdom and you're looking for personal development wisdom in particular, the Bible is going to be the best source of the things that actually work. So the second reason is I have been reading through the Bible for my second time.
Well, actually let's see two and a half times, so I've done it the full way through twice now. And I'm on my third time through the new Testament right now. And one of the biggest things and themes that I've noticed is the crazy broken people that are all throughout scripture. So if you want to feel better about yourself and the messed up, you know, hot mess situation that you got going. [00:09:00] Going on in your life. Just go read the stories of pretty much everybody in the Bible except Jesus. And you will feel better about yourself, but. By looking at the examples of the stories in scripture. There is so much inspiration and so much grace and mercy.
And when you look to people who have, and will continue to make mistakes, like look at Jesus and his 12 disciples, like there were some. Like kind of messed up people going on, even in that core group alone. But yet Jesus loved them. He served them. He saw the best in them. And anytime you're going to build a company or you're going to build a business or a team or a family it's going to be filled with broken people who have a whole boatload of issues.
Who've made a whole lot of mistakes who will continue to make mistakes in the future. And so we, Roger, and I don't want you to look to us as the example for how to get this right. We want you to look to the Lord [00:10:00] and we want you to also look at the way that he guided and equipped and gave grace to all of the stories of people in the Bible. And so that's the second reason is just when you look at the examples of the stories and the people. That, ~you know, ~maybe like David said that he's a man after God's heart, but like when you look at the things that he did, I mean, adultery murder. ~Uh, you know, ~greed, laziness, like, I mean, there are things that are quick for us to judge someone or compare ourselves to, but yet God saw through all of that brokenness.
He used it for tremendous good. And at the end of the day, he saw the beautiful facets of David. And so that's just one of the many examples in scripture of some broken, messed up people who were just trying to seek the Lord and do the right thing and the redemptive story of how he all works it together for their good and for our [00:11:00] good and for his glory is just really, really special.
And so those stories in particular can be really, really inspiring to you. And they have been very inspiring to us as we embark on this journey together. So. Then the third and final reason that we decided to choose this as our,~ uh, ~one of our four core values and the one that we're starting with and launching it and rolling it out there to you guys is because we have seen that when we've been having to make decisions.
And boy, there are a lot, we have said that there's three pillars to the foundation of starting this company. And it's the people. It's the product. And it's the profit. So again, it has to be a business. It's got to have a really great product and the way that we're going to get it out there is by partnering with really great people all around, not just on our actual partner side, the people that join us in business, but in our vendor partners, our internal staff, the relationships partnering with each other. All of it, [00:12:00] the way that we have gotten confirmation time and time again in this short. Oh, gosh, less than two months journey of starting this business has been directly through the scripture that comes to us either in my morning, reading and devotionals. Or I, for example, subscribed to a ton of different emails, like Proverbs 31 ministries, or she works his way or every single morning I was going to pull up my phone, but that's what I'm recording on here every single morning.
The first thing that I do is I whip out my phone. ~Um,~ and unlike what I used to do, which is go to like Facebook or scroll Instagram, or check your email or your text messages. I have trained myself. To first thing in the morning, go to the Bible app, which I will link in the show notes. If you don't already have it, it's totally free.
And in my opinion, it's the best way to read or listen to the word. If you don't have like a physical book. And I do read from a physical book as often as I can, but sometimes I do listen on the go, but every morning I go to that app and there is [00:13:00] a verse of the day. And you guys, I cannot even tell you how many times that verse. Of the day has tied into something that maybe I talked about with someone~ in the, ~in the previous day or in that day to come. Or it's directly related to a situation or a decision or something that I've been thinking and praying about.
And in that short little start of my day, I have gotten so much confirmation for whether I'm on the right path, the wrong path, whether it's the right person, not the right person. And what's really cool is this is also in the way. That I have been able to really connect with other people on this journey as well, because oftentimes they will reference the same thing.
Or I have a couple of people throughout this journey that have known that we were doing this, that have sent me scripture, that they know that's what we talked about, or they know that's, what's tied into this. And so for that reason, I knew that we had to make this a value [00:14:00] and you know, a habit maybe for you, whether or not you are a believer and you're just, maybe you're a seeker and you kind of want to better understand.
What's really cool is if you go to the Bible app and you look at that verse of the day, there's also a little devotional. Someone will walk you through it and give you just like a really quick snapshot. There's some really good questions that they can ask you that are really relative to whatever it is that you're going through in that day.
And so it just, it really takes the overwhelm out of trying to read scripture. Because if you are overwhelmed by scripture, I was that way. Not even that long ago, you guys, like 15 years ago, I didn't read the Bible. I didn't know the stories that have now been so inspiring to me. And to be honest, I feel like I can say this in transparency that I, because I wasn't familiar with it, I had never really taken the opportunity to dive into it.
I feel like I thought that they were just ~kind of ~nice stories or nice examples. I didn't believe it to be factual or true, or the inspired word of God in that season of my life. So know that if you're there that's [00:15:00] okay. I was that person too. And I wouldn't want someone judging me or excluding me. Because of those thoughts back. You know, back then in that season of my life, but I would encourage you that if you are seeking something bigger in your life, if you are seeking something that has meaning. If you're not feeling fulfilled right now, if you're struggling in any area, whether that's business or life, I encourage you to look to the word as that guiding source for your life and your business.
And then just watch how the Lord shows up for you. And I can't wait to watch that happen. So if you. Are already a partner with Restore and you're listening to this years down the road. Hopefully this has given you a little bit more insight into why we chose this value. ~Um,~ again, whether you are a believer like us or you're not, and you're just trying to better understand what this means for us to have a faith forward company like this, or if you are praying for us in this journey, maybe getting ahead of us [00:16:00] launching this.
I can't tell you how much I appreciate it. And, you know, You'll notice that, for example, the scriptures that we've shared today, they'll start to pop up and ~they'll, ~they'll come up in conversations and they'll come up and your daily devotions or your Bible studies together, and it will be a confirmation for you or it's my prayer.
That it will be a confirmation for you, that you are also walking on the path that the Lord has intended for you. So y'all stay tuned for all of the goodness to come. As we continue to roll out the values each week. And I'm going to close us in prayer for this episode today.
Dear Lord, thank you so much for the opportunity to start. This company on a solid foundation of the values that are found in your word. I and Roger have seen the amazing. Just confirmation and peace and fulfillment that comes from just staying in step with you, by [00:17:00] staying in your word. And so Lord, I just ask you to bless those that are listening to this wherever they are and their belief journey, whether they are seeking after you, or whether they're seeking after things of this world.
And just trying to make sense of it all. Lord, I just ask that this message and the value that's been such a blessing to us of the wisdom that's found in your word that they could just. Exp explore it. Experience it and just get a glimpse of the goodness that can only come from you and whatever business they are.
A part of, whether that's ours or something completely different. And just help them to know that we're grateful that they're here and we're grateful to be a part of this journey. ~Uh,~ in this mission together in any capacity. And so Lord, thank you again for your word. Thank you for sending your son, Jesus for us.
Thank you for the crazy immense grace that you give to us. As we continue to walk on this journey and fail forward together, and we are just grateful for all of it. In Jesus' name. Amen. [00:18:00] Well, thank you guys so much. Make sure to stay tuned to the podcast, subscribe, feel free to share. ~Um, ~anything that I say on this podcast is public.
So you can put it out there and share it with anyone that you like. So even if I'm not really that active on social media and you are spread the word, my friends, I am so excited to continue to share our journey. ~Uh,~ founding Restore Collective out loud transparently with you guys each and every week.
