123 | Why Social Sellers Choosing to Rep Multiple Network Marketing Companies
===
[00:00:00] Hey friends. Welcome back to the Called to Lead podcast. So in today's episode, I'm going to be tackling yet another kind of tricky subject. I'm just trying to bring all the truth here on the podcast. And it's a conversation I'm seeing come up with multiple coaches, including Bob Heilig, who is a mentor of mine.
So I figured I'd kind of keep talking about it because it seems pretty relevant. And that is seeing. Influencers and marketers, social sellers. Adding on additional companies into what they share on line. And so you might be wondering because I've had some people specifically asked me this, like, is everyone doing it?
Is this something I need to do? Why is everyone doing it? And so I'm going to be tackling the five reasons that I know just from having conversations with some of these amazing friends and leaders and influencers who have made the choice to kind of give the backstory on why they might be doing it so that you can help make the decision whether or not you should as well. I will say right out the gate, I am [00:01:00] not choosing to add on an additional income stream of any kind in the season, especially not by adding on another network marketing company, even as an affiliate or anything like that. And I do still on my YouTube channel.
I do still recommend all the products that I use, whether it's skincare or whatever that might be, but I refer people to where they can buy it from. So we'll talk more about that in a minute, but I know you've probably heard my stance on it. You've probably heard Bob stance on it, but I feel like I'll dive a little deeper in this episode into the why behind people might be making this choice.
So let's dive into the episode.
[00:02:00]
Okay. So if you're still listening, I'm sure it's super intrigued about this conversation. Or maybe you've listened to a few episodes that I've touched on in the past or the episode where Bob highlight, but she's had a few talks about what it looks like to add an additional income stream through bringing on another network marketing product.
So this is kind of a continuing conversation. If this is the first episode that you have listened to my podcast. Welcome. I always love to really [00:03:00] focus on the topics. That I'm seeing, not just in my own business as a Seint top leader. But also in the business of network marketing in general or social selling or whatever you want to call it. And so I always like to bring the truth and just to kind of give you guys an insight into all the things, whether it's what my business actually looks like, what, you know, other top leaders are doing by sharing their stories or industry experts as well.
And so this one is going to just be ~sharing, kind of ~gathering the five reasons why I am seeing people add this on. And again, a lot of it is from exactly what they say or why they say they're doing it. And I'll kind of hopefully address the, again, the reasons behind. It and what you can do or decide for your own business, because let me preface this by saying that I love and honor the decisions of you or anyone else. In any business to make whatever decision they need for their family.
I think it's just really important to number one, if they're a believer to make sure that it is in the Lord's will for [00:04:00] them in their business. And you can do that through prayerfully, you know, spending time in the word. By talking to, you know, good godly friends who can kind of guide you and give you advice and wisdom.
And just by really kind of managing your expectations about what that process looks like. And so one episode I did, it talks exactly about like, whether you add another company, whether you leave your current company, whether you quit ~network~ network marketing altogether, or whether you choose to do what I'm doing, which is stay the course, focus your energy on one. Business one company and see where that can take you in the years to come. So if you are like some of my direct's or, some people out there, you know, who, who they're seeing it and they're like, gosh, is everybody adding on another business or another company?
And is this something I should do too? Well, I found it really interesting this morning. I saw a poll that Bob Heilig asked on his Instagram, which I'd say is a pretty good. ~Um, ~what is it called? Not survey size. What is it? Gosh, I've loved [00:05:00] statistics and college, and I can remember the name sample size sample size. Because obviously a ton of network marketers tell them network marketing leaders, ton of people follow Bob.
And so he asked the question, are you thinking about adding on an additional company into your business? And I, of course I clicked no because I'm not planning to do it and I'm not going anywhere from my company because I still believe it is an amazing product. And we have such an amazing opportunity if we get through what is known as the shakeout.
And we'll talk about that in a second, but, so I clicked no, and I was like, what is the result going to be? And. I was so surprised, but honestly, delighted to see that 80% of people agreed with me, meaning only 20% of people were out there looking to add another product into their, their existing company. And so, first of all, to answer that question, is everybody doing this?
The answer to that is no. And I can say that because again, when I look at my team, I think that there's a very small percentage, especially. ~Um, ~and it's not just with my [00:06:00] team, it's with, you know, our company in general. There's a very small percentage of leaders who might be a little bit frustrated with where they are in their business or discouraged by what's happening with the shakeout, particularly in our company.
Or honestly, I think the economy is input in and having an impact on a lot of this and friends that's completely out of our control. And so I think they're feeling discouraged. They're feeling nervous. And we'll talk about that in a second. But,~ um,~ but essentially, no, not everybody is doing this. This is a decision that you can make for yourself, but no, not everyone is doing it.
I'm certainly not. I know many other top leaders who are staying the course and they realize that because it is really smart to focus in on one thing and it can be really challenging to add on additional things. So then let's get into the five reasons why somebody might be making that choice. And the first reason is kind of a long standing principle in network marketing, and that is monkey.
See monkey do. And what I mean by that is people, your team, your, you know, the masses, they're not going to do what we tell them to they're going to do what they see us do. They're going to do what they see you do. [00:07:00] That is the power of duplication in network marketing, which is why you got to make sure that everything you do in your business, every choice you make is something that if you were to have a team of a thousand, 10,000 or more, you would want that to be a decision that you would want all a thousand or 10,000 of those people to make. And so the number one reason why people are joining, regardless of if they've been in business for a while, or they're a leader, or, you know, they're just on a team or maybe follow a bunch of people online it's because they're seeing other people do it. And again, monkey see monkey do. Well,
I'm here to say that that can be a really, really good way to run your business. If you see somebody that you admire is doing great things in their business, certainly emulating what they are or aren't doing in their business can be a great way for you to be inspired, to take action in your own business.
You just need to make sure that those actions are going to be leading to growth for yourself personally, and for your business. And that might not always be the case, especially with adding on an additional income [00:08:00] stream because the number two reason that people are joining is because they might be an online influencer. Meaning they have tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of followers, and they're essentially running their business like an online influencer, meaning they're working with lots of different companies.
They have partnerships with brands who were paying them, or they've got affiliate links with companies that might pay like a little small percentage. Whereas by adding on an affiliate style program with another network marketing company, They can stand to make a much higher percentage on their sales when someone clicks their link or when someone, you know, goes into their funnel or comments, whatever, and gets the automated response.
Right. So there are, I would say a very small percentage. It's definitely way less than 20%, but I'd say like less than 1% of people who have reached that level or who aspire to be at that level. And so a lot of those because of the things that I talked about in the last [00:09:00] episode, Which was talking about the reasons why I think social selling and that style of coaching is actually hurting the network marketing industry. Because a lot of the coaching out there is geared towards that 1% or that is going to build this big following online. And again, I talked about that in the episode that that's what people are seeing because they have the most followers.
That's what the algorithm is pushing up to the top of your feed. Is, you know, the ones who are making these choices. And so if you are an influencer, an online influencer and you're partnering with brands and you want to make that decision for yourself personally, then that's, that's up to you. I know I was just having the conversation that I almost that's one of the reasons there's several that I'm really not focusing, especially on Instagram and this season at all, because I don't want to build a following.
I know that I could, if I wanted to, I don't want to like dive all in, into the strategies that it takes, because then I might be tempted myself to take on those~ different.~ Different things. And then [00:10:00] it's going to make it more complicated for my team to duplicate my efforts, whereas how I'm actually working in my business, which is having conversations and connections with prospective customers with referred customers.
I have lots and lots of rivers, my existing customers, which is what Bob Heilig says is the best way for you to spend your time. And of course my team, my awesome team and building connections, relationships, and, you know, inspiring them to do the next thing and their business, which for us, is getting their ticket to come to our reunion.
And so that's how I'm spending my business, which all of those actions are things that I would want all. 4,400 teamies on my team to do and their business. Whereas I don't necessarily want or feel like my team needs to go make, you know, one to two reels every single day about the makeup and, you know, go crazy and do again, all of these things that they see all these influencers doing, because I think sometimes it distracts him from the real you know, business of this, which is building [00:11:00] relationships, connections, asking questions, asking the scary questions.
Like have you ever thought about doing what I do? Or, you know, you already love this makeup. Have you thought about sharing it with your friends and family? And just taking that next step forward and having those conversations and connections with your customers or your. Perspective customers following up with people.
That's what people are not spending their time doing. Instead they're over there in content creation mode, which is a joy for some people. And so that goes back to the number two reason is because some people who are making this choice genuinely are online influencers and they see the value in adding a product where they can get a higher percentage.
So I just want you to think, like, is that person really a top leader or are they just a top performer? And is that something that you really. Really do aspire to do, or do you aspire to really help a lot of other people. In, or even just a few other people in start their own journeys in this business. So either way that is the number two [00:12:00] reason is because they are an influencer who wants to do it, which kind of brings me to the number three reason, which is people want to make more money. So I see this as, and I've heard this as one of the driving forces that a lot of, you know, sellers or top, top sellers, especially, but you know, some top leaders, they might see their paychecks dropping because again, people might be living in fear, which spoiler alerts can be number four. Or again, because we're in the shakeout. ~Um, ~because economies. You know, maybe a little bit shaky or Rocky, or because again, as I talked about in the social selling network marketing episode, last time they, their income is tied to their own efforts and they're burned out or they have spread their self too thin by sharing too many things, or maybe the algorithm's gotten to them where they don't have the same number of views or the ~same,~ same things.
And so their income has gone down. Well, in some cases it might not have gone down and people just want to the opportunity to make more money by adding, [00:13:00] you know, spread hedging, their bets, or however you want to say it. And in that case, like, you know, I mean, More power to you. If you want to do that, I just want to make sure that you're not really going to hurt your existing revenue stream. Which again, if you want to add another revenue stream, you could do it in a way that's not going to impact your existing business.
Because as I talked about, and one of the previous episodes on this subject, it does create confusion. You're going to take people, even if they start out as a customer, you will have people from other teams, from your teams, teams, from your leaders on your team, join your team. And it just creates this like confusion and frustration.
And most of the time the grass is not greener. And your mental head space is divided your time and head space is divided. And perhaps in some cases, your income actually could go up again, especially if you have a big following already and you're adding it. But I suspect that in a lot of cases, what we're going to see if we're not seeing it already is it's actually going to hurt the income in your first business. And it's not [00:14:00] going to make up for that in the second one to where your income actually could go down.
So that's, that's another reason if I'm being totally honest of why I wouldn't choose to make this decision is I know for a fact it would hurt my income that I'm super grateful for, even if it does go down and it has, I'm not gonna lie. My income even has dropped in my same business because of a lot of these, these things, but I learned a long time ago to be grateful for the income that I am making.
And all I ever wanted from this business. Was to make a couple thousand dollars extra a month to supplement my family and my business. And so I'll link to the income disclosure and I won't talk too much about that, but that's all I ever wanted from this business. And so as long as it's sustaining that, even if it's not at the highest levels of what I've made in this company, I'm okay with that, because I believe that it can get back there.
Number one, but I also know to be grateful for what I've been given and I don't want to hurt this income level by dividing my time, confusing my team. And taking on multiple companies. [00:15:00] So, but that is the number three reason why people might be making this as cause they just want to make more money.
So, you know, to each their own with, with how and why they choose to do that. And time will tell whether or not that actually will make an impact on their income in this business. So we'll see. So then the number four reason is they're afraid. So they are choosing to lean into the fear side of what if my company goes out of business or what if my company sells out?
Or what if, I mean, gosh, there's so many what ifs and my friends, if you live in that fear based mentality of the worst thing that could happen in your business, first of all, you're experiencing it twice when you have nothing, you know, To base whether or not that actually could be factual in your business.
And even if your personal sales are going down or the total company sales are going down or enrollment's going down, that doesn't mean that the company is going to go out of business. That doesn't mean that it's going to even continue to shrink from. You know, [00:16:00] in business, it likely means, especially if you're five to seven years into your company, which we are in Seint.
That it might mean that you're in, what's called the shakeout, which is a time where once again, Top performers are top sellers who haven't really built a strong leadership on going back to the first principle monkey, see monkey do and keeping things really simple, really duplicatable for the masses. They get frustrated when they see their business dropping for all the reasons we've talked about or see their income dropping.
And they start to look at other opportunities, they jumped ship, they go to other companies entirely, which some people totally are doing. They're not even trying to balance the two. They are going all in another company, which honestly I've said this before, I think is the more respectable way to do it because then you are going to focus in on something that you feel like is. Is going to be an amazing opportunity for you.
So anyways, the fear out of it, or the worrying about the worst possible thing that could happen in your business is what is driving people to make this decision. [00:17:00] And I invite you to do what I'm doing, which is choosing faith, which is believing the best thing that could happen, which for example, in our company, I believe the best is still ahead.
We are about to ~explain,~ expand globally into three different countries. And just a few months, we're going to have our annual reunion, which is coming back annually, which is a huge, huge win they've made it even more affordable for people to attend, which is exciting and more accessible in the timeline of doing it.
And that is always a big, you know, kind of. Gas filling opportunity to pour fuel on the flame of what is already still a pretty awesome business. I've been sharing my journey and my numbers and my team all this year. You can go back and listen to those episodes, the renewal recap episodes. If you want to know what my business actually looks like.
And so I am choosing faith over fear and believing the best thing that can happen in my business. But there are some others who are afraid, and that is why they are making this choice. And again, to each their own, none of us can predict the future. And even, you know, if [00:18:00] you're a believer like me, James says specifically the brother of Jesus and James, he says not to, you know, basically say, we're going to go do this.
And that you can say if the Lord wills. So that's where I am Lord willing. This company continues because I know we have a strong product and know we have a strong vision, and I know that we have amazing. teamies and leaders, even some of the ones who were making those choices, I think that they will see.
And that's my hope and my faith Lord willing. That they will see that it's worth sticking it out. And there are so many leaders in so many companies. I was just watching a YouTube video of a top Sensi rep. That's been with the company since 2012. Which I'm like, that's amazing. And I guarantee you, they went through something just in fact, I know they went through something just like this because Brett Blake, who I've interviewed on this podcast talks about it in his. In his book, renewable for field leaders, which is a huge chunk of what I'm talking about on this podcast. So the fifth and final reason why somebody might be adding on another [00:19:00] company. Is, they might actually be wanting to make a change and this happens, and this is another example of, I think this is okay. I mean again, I love everything about what I have at my company, so I am not interested in looking for another option.
Right. But that doesn't mean that that's not the case. If someone isn't aligned with something anymore or maybe they don't love the product or something just feels a little bit off. I know my Seint great grandma or no Seint grandma. ~Uh, ~her name's Amanda earnest. And one of the reasons she is a top leader here at Seint, she was a kind of mid tier leader at another company.
And it was a skincare company. And while she did really like the product and, you know, was, was kind of into it when. She decided to go all in with Seint. She did have a little bit of a transition period where she still continued to serve her customers in that first company, but she dove all in to the new company.
And then when the time was right, she gracefully let that [00:20:00] other business go. And it wasn't that long after going all in with this company that she did that. And the cool part is, is her mentors in that company were so supportive of her. They still are to this day. And now look where she is. She was able to take. What she, what she used at that. And that company. Bring it here and what a blessing to all of us to do that as well.
So while again, that is not the choice that I'm going to make. It might be the choice that, you know, other people are making. And in that case, you have to just love them. And. Realize that again, this is a relationship business, and you have to value the relationship over the structure of your team over again, the decisions that people may or may not be making on your team, and you have to love them through it, and you can educate them on the, what might happen or on the reasons why they need to kind of make sure, like, is this a faith over fear thing.
Is this a money thing? Am I being greedy? Am I like, what, what are the reasons that I'm doing this? Why am I doing this? And is this [00:21:00] really going to be a blessing and serve other people in this business? And so I can't answer those questions for you. I can't make the decisions for you. All I can do is share my heart, my decision, my feelings on the subject point to other experts like Bob Heilig, who are talking about this as well, and just really equip and educate you on doing whatever you think is best in your business.
But I hope this episode was helpful in helping you kind of peek behind the lens of why people might be making this change and give you a little bit of fuel for thought for yourself and your own business. So stay tuned for many more episodes like this and some really cool interviews coming up soon with some awesome people that we'll be talking about this a little bit further. So I hope you'll have a beautiful week and I'll see y'all next Friday.
Bye. [00:22:00]
