[00:00:00] Hey friends, welcome back to the Called to Lead Podcast. So I cannot even believe it, but this is the hundredth episode of this podcast currently known as the call to lead podcast. And hopefully that name is going to stick and last for the future. And I'll kind of share a little bit more why. As it's tied deeply to what I feel is my mission. And what I've been called to in this world.
But if you are listening to this podcast for the very first time, or maybe you're a longtime listener, following all a hundred episodes of this podcast, as well as the 20 or so that I did on my previous podcast, the stories of light podcast, you have seen quite the evolution as I have leaned into. The bigger purpose, passion and mission that I feel is a direct alignment with my spiritual growth. And linking arms with the Lord and the purpose that he has for me. And so today's episode is going to be a special one for a few [00:01:00] reasons. Number one. I hope this to be a way to kind of share again, the mission behind why this podcast exists in the first place. Which is tied to the best news ever, which is the belief that if you are to give over everything in your life and in your business to the Lord, And you watch how he shows up. Just watch out friends.
He can allow you to soar in your business. So I'm going to be sharing the three lessons learned and some through three biblical truths centered around the gospel of Christ in today's episode. And this episode is also really special to me because it is an honor of my sweet best friend, Emily Horton, who passed away yesterday. And if you've been following the last few episodes of this podcast, you've kind of walked through the journey. I have the experience of, ~uh, ~just being with her in her last few weeks and few months and few days. [00:02:00] Here on this earth. And now I know that she is reunited with both her mom, but Mo most importantly, her heavenly father. In heaven and an attorney. Which ultimately is the goal for all of us.
And so while it is certainly sad, and I know that myself in. ~Uh, ~especially her beautiful family that she leaves behind. Are certainly, ~um, ~struggling if you will, in these days. I want this message and the truth that I hope that it brings to you and the impact that. I know that it can make in your business.
If you let the words of our Lord. Sink in. And impact your life and your business. That like Emily, your life and the lives that, that you, the impact that you can make through your business. And through the example of being alight to point back to him. Can go. So for far beyond your time here on this earth, because all of us are that's the one certainty, right.
Is all of us one day. Are going to meet [00:03:00] our maker. And every knee will bow before him. And it's, it's just my hope. And I know it's, Emily's hope as well that you can make the most of the time that you do have here on earth. And lastly, this episode is special because it's hard as it is to talk about. Celebrating,~ um,~ during a tough season with losing someone very, very special. I also want to celebrate you and thank you for coming on this journey by doing a gift away challenge.
So I'll be sharing a little bit more about that with you as well and how you can win $1,200 or over a thousand dollars in free makeup for you and a deserving friend, maybe at someone who is going through cancer themselves. Maybe it's your mom. Maybe it's a family member. Maybe it's a friend. But Emily and I both loved this makeup and we loved this business and I like to think that she's in this gift away with me as well. And impacting the [00:04:00] lives of those who can receive it.
So stay tuned for more of that. As we dive into today's episode.
[00:05:00]
Okay. So I want to have a heart to heart about where you are in business. And I know if you're listening to this podcast, You are likely an entrepreneur or maybe thinking about becoming one or most likely you are in the business of network marketing, direct sales, social selling, whatever you want to call it. And if you're like me, you can tend to wrestle with whether you're doing what you're meant to do, not just in this business, but in this life. So how many of you guys have ever struggled with that with really feeling like you're truly pursuing the calling that is put on your life?
Because I think all of us feel deep down. That we are meant for something big and for something so much more. But I think unfortunately our world tends to decide and define what is big or what success looks like when success or an impact can look like. Beautiful Emily and just being an amazing mom. And amazing. [00:06:00] Wife. And an amazing hairstylist or makeup artists that helps women to feel beautiful and like the most beautiful version of themselves, regardless of how big of a team or how big of a business or how much money you make, or how much income or, you know, again, worldly impact that you can make when ultimately. I know. Because of my own personal experience, that when we really lean into the Lord and when we surrender it all to him and we allow him to take over the words. Our actions and we do it all without fear, which has never ever from him.
And we choose faith and we choose hope. And most importantly, we choose love. We can truly step into the impact and the mission that he has for us, which is going to bring so much more fulfillment than a huge, crazy team or some. Rank or shiny car or anything ever could. So this [00:07:00] message goes out to all of you guys who were overthinkers or who tend to over-complicate or like me can get really hung up somewhere between wrestling with. What you feel like you're called to, which is a bigger impact and something that's so much more than you can even imagine. But try not to let the world cloud who we really are or trying to live someone else's purpose or passion. And so if it ever feels like you're carrying a burden that is too heavy for you to bear, this message is for you. And I'm going to be sharing. At the beginning, just a little bit of a backstory of the history of this podcast, because this might be the first episode that you're listening to.
And if that's the case welcome, I'm so excited. To have you. And, you know, I, I pray and hope that through ~this, ~this episode and through the episodes in the years to come, that you can feel my mission, which is to lift up not only you and your business, but. An entire [00:08:00] industry that I believe can be such an incredible catalyst if we just. Get out of our heads and let the Lord take over. And not look to the worldly things that are taught to us from all angles.
Right? So I'm gonna be sharing a little bit about the journey of this podcast and because some of you guys, I hear this all the time. You might've listened to the very first few episodes. Maybe we've. You know, been friends and been connected. ~Uh, ~back from the dream with me days or from the stories of light days are definitely from the phase of this podcast where it was the scale without social podcast.
So I want to kind of paint the picture first of the story of the evolution of this podcast and why I started it to begin with. Because it, it is something that even can be confusing. I know if you're thinking, okay, well, you're a Seint artist, Heather, you're leading this team and you're leading this business. Of thousands of women. You're still sharing the makeup with your ~own ~own customers.
So ~why, ~why start a podcast? What is the purpose in doing this? And so I want to share my why. For doing that today. [00:09:00] But then most importantly, and I definitely encourage you to listen to the end. I'm going to be sharing the top three lessons that I have learned through this experience that are all tied to scripture. And more importantly, tied to the true gospel because in the episodes to come, I'm going to be tackling some of those hard truths that. But up against from a lot of what our world tells us we need to do in life and business in order to be quote successful. And so I'm going to be sharing ~some, ~some tough things ~in the,~ in the coming weeks and, you know, sharing ~some, ~some stories and experiences with you from people who have been through the hard things in business, knowing that it has all ~been, ~been worth it. ~Uh, ~because of leaning into the bigger purpose and passion that the Lord has for them in their business. ~So. ~And then lastly, I also want to make sure that if you haven't seen, or if you're not following me on Instagram, I am doing a gift away for celebration of this hundredth episode.
And of course I am now going to be doing [00:10:00] it that as well. And Emily's honor. And that is where you have an opportunity to get a thousand dollars in free makeup. 500 for you. 500 for a friend, along with the cultivate. What matters? Power sheets. The,~ uh,~ well-watered women advent bundle because we are coming up into the advent season and the coming of the celebration of our, the birth of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ, and it's such a special season.
And so I want to be able to honor that and honor you, and thank you for joining me in this journey and on this episode. So you can enter that gift away by texting the word gift away. G I F T a w a Y to my business cell, which is 9 1 2 4 0 5 8 9 1 2. Or you can just click the link in the show notes on whatever app you're listening or in the description.
If you're watching this on YouTube. So definitely a diamond to that. And I can't wait to see who the lucky winner is. I'll announce the winner. ~Uh, ~on Friday, November 10th. So you still have a couple of weeks left to inter [00:11:00] okay. So here's my story. For starting this podcast. So it all started years ago, probably three years ago where I was just sitting at my island in our kitchen.
And I was flipping through a magazine that I had gotten from a summer camp that my girls had attended at our church. And. There was just this one. It was a one little tiny part of this article that talked about. A podcast and how they had started a podcast with the hopes of reaching more people with the impact of their mission. And I felt in reading that something stir within my soul right then and there that. You know what. A podcast really could be an amazing way for me to be a light to point to Christ. And to share my experience, my stories, the stories of others. And even though it didn't make a lot of sense right there in that moment, I felt this immediate sense of direction and clarity around what it could look like if I could just [00:12:00] make the time to make it happen. But unfortunately life got in the way and it was honestly, it was probably a year or more before that same idea. Came back into my life on a flight back from a reward trip with St with my sweet heavy Roger. And we were talking about our shared love of podcast and the impact that they've made on our lives.
And I remember thinking on that flight. Laura. This is something that you put on my heart. Forever ago. Am I not being obedient to what you're putting as a possible way for me to be a light to point back to you? Am I not being obedient by diving into this. And so I thought about it. I prayed about it. And that year. I decided to start my very first podcast, which was called the stories of light podcast.
And my mission back then was really simple. It was just to share the stories and the wisdom of leaders of any kind of. Entrepreneurial pursuit [00:13:00] that point every bit of success that they have had back to the source that they believe. ~Uh, ~is the provider for all of it, which is their relationship with the Lord and allowing him to guide them ~in that, ~in that business. And so I still have that podcast.
The cool thing about a podcast. And I remember my very first interview was with Bob Heilig. One of my mentors. And I remember him saying right before we hit record that the coolest part about a podcast is it lives on for years. And so all of those episodes are still available over on that stories of light podcast.
And occasionally I will replay those same episodes here on this podcast, because they're important messages ~that, ~that feel timely in that season. So that's where my podcasting journey started. But guess what about six months into it? I started to get in my head. How many of you guys have been there where you're pursuing a path and ~you, ~you feel that calling you feel that purpose. And you start to let life get in the way or you start to overthink or you let the fear take over. And I stopped. [00:14:00]
I can't really pinpoint what the source of that was, but I dropped it for about six months. I started to just lean into that overthinking and I. I just stopped. And honestly, I think a part of it was, I didn't have a deeper mission or a purpose or a clear vision for what I wanted out of the podcast at that time. And if I think if we're trying to operate from a place of a lack of clarity or a lack of a purpose and a vision. We're never going to have the energy or the motivation to do it.
Even if it is a calling that we do feel is from the Lord. And so I tabled it for about six months. Until I started my second podcast, which I could have just picked up. Had I known I could have just picked back up on, on that, that first one. But instead I started a totally separate one kind of out of ignorance. And honestly, I'm not going to lie when I started the dream with me podcast, which dream is. Based on the speech that I was able to share at our company's annual conference. [00:15:00] Where I was tasked with helping leaders within our company break down their big goals into bite size pieces. And so this podcast was started based on that principle. Honestly. I have to be really fully transparent with you.
And I'm learning that. When we hold back our true truths and our true motivations. The enemy can have power over that, but he has no power over the truth and sharing fully what our motivations or intentions were behind it. And I'm not going to lie that when I started back at the podcast, I think it was initially from a place of fear of what the future with my Seint
business in that season. Could look like. And I think that I really honestly started it as an opportunity to make an additional income stream. And not that there's anything wrong with that, but I think I saw it to be more of a safety net. I remember talking through ~my, ~my business [00:16:00] coaches, Michelle, and summer from, she works his way.
I talk about them a lot here. And I remember them helping to kind of correct me on that, thinking that trusting in the Lord and his provision for your life. And creating a safety net for yourself. Those two things do not align. And so if you are ever making a decision for your business or for, you know, any, any facet of your life that is based in fear, not in the faith of him being the provider and the source of that. ~That, ~that feeling or that, that direction, if you will.
And if you're not fully obedient to the why that he's called you to do. Something's just not going to sit. Right. And so when I started that dream with me podcast, I was taking a podcast coaching course called podcast, a prophet. Which was an amazing experience. The Lord absolutely used for good namely through the connections and the friendships that I have made through that through some of my fellow podcasters.
And I'm forever grateful [00:17:00] for it, but I remember struggling with two things during that season. And one was when it came time to implement the directive from the coach at the time to monetize it. I felt this check in my spirit of S of just feeling like, you know, what, why am I doing this? Like, why. Am I wanting to really create an additional income stream?
Like what. Is this out of fear or is it out of faith? And when you're talking out of one side of your mouth on a podcast, right? And ~you're, you're, you're, ~you're preaching. If anything, this one message and your act, you're taking actions that are not counter to that. You're going to feel out of alignment.
And so that was my first, the first kind of prick in my spirit was like, I don't know that I really want to monetize this. I don't know that that's what the Lord is calling me to do with this. ~Uh, ~meaning to try to make money from this. And I felt very, ~um, ~clear purpose that this was a sewing opportunity to plant seeds rather than a reaping opportunity.
Like my Seint business. ~Uh, ~to be able to provide for my [00:18:00] family. And so that was one thing I wrestled with. The other thing that I wrestled with was the burden, the deep burden that I was feeling and seeing in my team and my leaders at the time, which was that people felt like they had to create this massive following. Whether that's on Instagram or whether that's on a podcast or social media or YouTube or wherever it is in order to make a massive impact. And I knew that to not be the case because I'd seen it in my own business and I'd seen it in the businesses of others. That we're making an incredible impact on the lives of so many people and it had nothing to do with their following.
And so I felt this deep burden for. Possibly you for. Who put for myself, for the people who felt like they were on this. You know, Rat race, if you will, ~of,~ of exhausting themselves. Or selling their souls to social media. They felt like they were a slave to social media. And so that was where scale without social was born. And I pivoted from dream with me to scale without [00:19:00] social and kind of took on this experiment of stepping away from social media, myself for an entire year. And focusing on ways and alternatives to grow my business, both the podcast.
~Um, ~even though, again, that's more of a, of a reaping opportunity, not so much a business that I make any money from even still to this day. ~Um, ~not to say that that can't be something that the Lord can change for the future. But as of right now, again, I still see this more as a ministry and as a mission. Because it's something that I'm walking in obedience and something that I feel that I'm called to write. But scale without social came from a burden. For what others are experiencing.
And actually there's a recent podcast episode from, she works his way that I'll share that talks about the ambitious nature of a lot of us in business and how you can really be ambitious for the Lord's will in your life. And a lot of times that is tied to a burden that you feel that the Lord also feels.
And I think women. ~Uh, ~we ~in the, ~in the world of social media, and especially for those of [00:20:00] you guys who are mama's to teens or to, to young girls, ~we, ~we feel it even bigger that while there's a lot of blessings in social media, there's a lot of impacts on our lives that are not so great. And so that deep burden fueled the fire behind my decision to step away from social. But it was actually, I cannot even believe that it's been over a year ago. That I finally leaned into what I truly believe is the bigger purpose, the bigger mission. And honestly what the Lord has called me to with this podcast.
And that is when I. Decided to change the name. And pivot once again to the called to lead podcast. And so I have a saved note in my phone. That I'm going to share with you where it was from October 4th, 2022, where I knew that if I was going to pivot. Yet again. I had to get really, really clear on what my purpose was in that mission.
And so I wrote it down. I created a mission statement and a vision statement, and ~I, ~I [00:21:00] put values around how I can serve you. The listeners of this podcast. And so my mission. That I wrote down a year ago. And it really hasn't changed is to help you grow your network marketing business beyond your own effort in three ways. Number one through wisdom and guidance from the Lord. And that means getting really, really bold about my faith story, unpacking some really hard things and hard truths that I'm even doing in this episode.
Right. And so, and sharing biblical truths with that. So that's number one through the wisdom and guidance from the Lord. Number two through systems to help you automate and simplify you guys. I am obsessed with this. This is something that lights me up. I have just, it's the thing in my business that I, that brings me the most joy is being able to figure out what's working for others. ~Uh, ~to be able to simplify it and systematize it so that other people can. You know, automate it in their business. And so that's something that I've been talking about and we'll continue to talk about number [00:22:00] three through duplication.
So your income and income or impact aren't tied to your own results. So it can feel really exhausting when you're the only one working or you're the only one doing the actions. And a lot of times that's because you're doing the things that not everybody could do. That the everyday woman that joins your team tomorrow could never doesn't have a desire to do, which might be why she's not joining you in business to begin with.
And so focusing on the actions that can help you. Duplicate your own efforts so that your income can come from not just the work that you do in your business, because that's the best part about the network marketing business model is if you impact other people, then your income can grow as well. And then the impact that you can make on the kingdom through that income and the money mind getting over the money, mindset, things, and all of that is tied to that as well.
So those are the three things tied to my mission. Then my vision. So the mission is like that, the purpose behind it, right. The vision is like, what is the [00:23:00] outcome that I really, really want from this? And ultimately it's something bigger than my business or my team's business, or even our company's business.
And Seint it's truly to uplift the industry as a whole and to help those who want to be a light in the darkness, which exists for sure in not just this business model, but any business model that's out there. Right? Like ~any, ~any entrepreneurial things that can lean into comparison or greed. There's a lot of darkness.
And so you, my friends have an opportunity to be a light. And I pray that the principles and the things that I talk about on this podcast can help you do that and feel like you're operating in a, be in your business in the right way, meaning in the Lord's way. And so that is my vision is to truly uplift the entire industry, not just my business, not just, you know, your business, not just our company's business, but the entire industry of network marketing, social, selling, whatever you want to call it. And the values and how I specifically know that I [00:24:00] can serve you. R a foundation of choosing faith over fear. The scale without social concepts.
So you don't have to grow your following. Or, you know, really the better way to do it. Cause scale without social, not going to lie. It's a little click baity if I'm being honest, but not selling your soul to social media or not having to be a slave to social media. Those are words that better. Describe what I know that I can serve you because I've done it right. Then stories of light sharing.
Again, those examples of the very first idea that I had for this podcast, the interviews, the successes that leave clues that you can implement your business. Fourth is systems that scale. There's always systems that can help you build your business. And I aim to share that on this podcast. And then finally focusing on a profitable debt-free business, because if you're in network marketing, this is a business and you need to treat it like a business and you need to be profitable.
You need to be providing not only for your family and for the time that you're putting into it, but you need to be [00:25:00] smart about how you're using. That money. That is a gift from the Lord. So being profitable debt-free. And building a business that's based in freedom is something that's really, really important to me. So my friends, those are, that's my mission.
~That is, ~that is why I'm here. And that is the thing that continues to fuel my fire. To do a podcast every single week. In addition to all of the crazy things of leading my team of thousands, being a wife and a mama, of course, to my kids, ~you know, just,~ just. Finding the deeper purpose and passion ~is, ~is something that we all can do when we lean into creating a mission and a vision and values for your business.
And so I encourage you to do the same. But most importantly, and finally, I want to share three scriptures and three lessons that I've learned in. All of my experience in business over 20 years in business. And the first is the fact that the gospel. Is really, truly good news, my friends. And I'm here to tell you that [00:26:00] I, and maybe I can share my testimony in a future one, because I don't want to let ~this, ~this podcast go too long. But I did not grow up a believer.
You guys. I think I believed in a higher power, but I certainly was not looking to the Lord. To guide me in my business. I was looking to me what I could get from it, what I could get from others. And even the kind of, I think the gifts that the Lord gave me of encouragement and kindness and positivity and optimism and friendship. You know, I think if I really look back to my pre Christ days, I was using those things for my own gain.
And anytime you're doing that, you are never going to be stepping into what the Lord has for you. And ultimately, and this was hard for me to, to really understand it was sin. Anytime you're focusing on pride or control or your own selfish ambition. Even if it feels like on the outside, you're doing it for the right reasons that my friends ~is, ~is sin. And sin separates us from the Lord.
It's just a fact, anytime you're doing something [00:27:00] outside of his will, which even, you know, the, the word says that if he, who knows what he's supposed to do and doesn't do that. That to him is sin. And that is from James, my favorite book of the Bible, which is a great place to start if you've never really dove into the Bible.
And so the beauty of the true gospel, which I remember even after I gave my life to Christ and was baptized into him by publicly professing my faith to our entire church. I still didn't quite understand the concepts of grace. And the fact that that sin is what was keeping me from a relationship with the Lord, but that's the entire purpose of the Lord sending his son, his one and only son, many of, you know, John three 16.
Right. I didn't know that verse believer or not. I know that's like the most, the most famous first. But the Lord sent his one and only son to be our savior to save us from the sin. That is always going to be evident in our lives. Cause you guys. I'm not perfect. I'm still going to slip into making decisions that aren't [00:28:00] always in alignment with his will. And send us something that is going to be ever present while we're here on this earth. But that's why God who is good and who loves you and is based in love.
He is love. God is love. That's why he sent his son, was to save us from. That sin so that we can have a relationship with him. So Romans 6 23, I'm going to pull that up. It says for the wages of sin is death. But the gift of God is a turtle life through Jesus Christ. Our Lord. And that to me, especially in light of losing my best friend, Emily. And watching that, I know that the enemy does not have any, any power over her death because she has eternal life in God, because Emily made that decision to put her trust in Jesus Christ. And it's not just about believing in God [00:29:00] or believing that a higher power or fate or the universe, which we'll get into that in a much, much deeper way in the, in the episodes to come.
But it's truly believing that the Lord. Historically physically sent his son to, to the earth as a man to experience everything that you've been through, the pain, the struggle, the suffering, physical literal, the temptation from the enemy, everything, he, he, he lived it and then he was. Murdered brutally on a cross, but then he was raised. To life after three days, which I know is really hard to believe, but it was physically. Historically documented.
And that was something that even I've struggled with is believing that the Bible was actual historical truth. But even if you look at. ~Uh, ~historical texts outside of that, it was documented. And that's exactly what the new Testament is, is just eye witness testimony to what actually happened when Jesus was on this earth.
And what happened in those [00:30:00] days after he died and was raised to death. And then the best part about the gospel is for those of us who have given our lives to him. We have been given the gift of the holy spirit, which again, as a concept, I know that can be really foreign, but once you've done it and that's all you need to do is believe that the Lord is your savior.
Put your trust in him. And you will be given the gift of the holy spirit. To guide you to give you that wisdom, to give you that, that feeling, to help, you know, when you're in alignment with his purpose in your life and even better, if you can be baptized, you know, our church. And I know there's, there's many different foundational truths that are central to the gospel, and then there's some kind of secondary things that. Different beliefs ~might, ~might say, but I know that I'm grateful for the opportunity to have been baptized. ~Uh, ~through immersion that represents that death, burial, and resurrection here on this earth and the receiving of the gift of the holy spirit. To where I can look to [00:31:00] him, don't always do it right.
But I can look to him for that guidance. And so that's the first lesson is the gospel really is the good news. And if you submit your life to him, Everything else will follow, might take years. And it, you know, it's going to be a journey while we are here on this earth until we're called home, like our sweet Emily, but look into the gospel and look into that really study on John three 16. The second lesson is kind of tied to that,~ that,~ that through the gift of the holy spirit. He will equip you with everything you need.
So Philippians, let me pull it up. Philippians four 19. I don't have scripture memorized. You guys. But the English standard version says, and my God will supply every need of yours. According to his riches in glory in Christ. Jesus. So again, this isn't just that God's going to give you everything you need.
It's God's going to give you every need. And we all have needs, right. That [00:32:00] change day to day. And if you just, you know, pray for what those needs are and you just ask him. He will supply that need, according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus, again, in our savior Christ just means our savior. Right. And so that is a beautiful scripture and a beautiful reminder.
That is an important lesson that I've learned is to look to him ~for, ~for the guidance, for everything we need. And then finally, for those of you guys who are struggling, honestly like myself, ~um, ~even in this moment ~of, ~of heartache and struggle, if you are having a hard time with that, the Lord calls us to cast our cares on him, because he cares for you. And that's first Peter five, seven.
That's actually one of my, the first verses that I ever memorized. And that's what the Lord calls us to do is cast your cares on him because he cares for you. So if you're struggling, friends, whatever that looks like in your life or in your business. I pray that these biblical truths can guide you in that.
And I'm so thankful for all of you guys following me on this journey [00:33:00] to a hundred episodes. I guess it's been more than a hundred. If you count stories of light. And don't forget that you can. You know, be entered into my gift away between now and November 10th. Cause again, he might be listening to this like next year because this will live on forever by texting the word gift away to 9 1 2 4 0 5 8 9 1 2. And thank you guys for allowing me to share my truth. There's lots more to come and I'm grateful for every single one of you. And I hope you have a beautiful week. Yeah.
