5 | E - Embrace YOUR Numbers + Choose Gratitude Over Comparison
Today we are going to talk about something pretty special. We are going to talk about YOU! Do you ever struggle with comparison with others in your industry or business? Or do you ever get frustrated with why you aren’t hitting those big goals in your business?
Well my friend, wherever you are in your entrepreneurial journey, guess what? You’re exactly where you’re meant to be, and all you can do is focus on growth from where you are in order to get where you want to be. In today’s episode, I’m going to share with you the importance of Embracing YOUR Numbers. Not your competitor, not your last business model, but right where you are NOW.
Last week - we talked about reverse engineering your goals.
Did you do your homework? If so, you’ve likely analyzed your numbers in your budget (using WAVE) and you’ve set a finish line goal to accomplish for each quarter of the year.
Let me share an example of this in my business first.
So how do I go from where I am to where I want to be by the end of the year? I start from where I am!! Let’s flash back to four years ago in 2018. Even though I was doing pretty well in my business with around 100 teammates, some of my sideline sisters had flown past me with hundreds if not thousands of teammates. But guess what, I had a clear metric
In my notes app, I track the number of total teamies I have and multiply by my currently metric of growth to get a monthly, quarterly or year end goal, and I’ve been doing it since I had around 100 teammates, and now just 4 years later I have almost 4,000.
Let’s start from where you are and focus on that word I love so much:
Incremental
I want you to take whatever number you want to grow - your net income (money in your pocket after expenses), number of followers, team size, and focus on INCREMENTAL smaller steps to get there. My recommendation is to multiply by 1.10.
Your homework is to break out a notebook or your notes app on your phone, and right now, whatever that dream number that’s in your head - income, team size, number of items sold, write down where you ARE right now.
Next, make a vertical column with all 12 months left in this year.
I want you to take the number where you are now and multiply it by 1.10 to get an incremental growth rate of 10% better than where you are right now. Keep doing that for every month. What does your end of the year look like now? It might have started off slow and steady, but it grew by the power of compound interest by simply doing just a little bit better than the previous month.
If your end number seems higher than what’s possible, feel free to apply the same metric to each quarter of the year (10% growth each quarter) or even each year. 10% growth in profit each year, and imagine what your business would look like each year?
Second homework piece, focus on gratitude for where you are RIGHT NOW. One of my fave quotes is by Lara Casey, the founder of Cultivate What Matters and my beloved goal setting planner - the Powersheets. It says:
Comparison isn’t just the thief of joy, it’s the thief of everything. Keep your eyes on your own purposeful path. Celebrate others. Celebrate progress, not perfection. Cultivate gratitude over comparison. Gratitude turns what we have into more than enough.
